    • A tape display device comprises a housing (10) supporting a pair of parallel rollers (11, 12) between which a tape (14) is adapted to be wound back and forth to display different visual information contained on the tape. The rollers are driven by a continuous belt (20) via an electric motor (17). One of the rollers is a tension roller (11) which maintains tension in the tape as it is would back and forth between the rollers. The tension roller consists of a cylinder (25) having end caps (26) for providing bearing surfaces which bear on respective bushes (27) in the housing to provide rotational mounting of the roller. A drive pinion (22) on the outside of the housing has a stub-axle (28) which extends through the bush and end cap and into the cylinder. A spiral tension spring (29) is attached between the end of the stub axle and a flange of the end cap (26). The spring is located within the cylinder and allows relative movement between the cylinder and pinion and maintains tension in the tape as the two rollers rotate in synchronism and the diameter of the tape on each roller varies.

    • A supply roll (20) of thin liner material (22) for carrying a strip (24, 26) of resilient plastic material is mounted for rotation with the axis of rotation (B-B) in a horizontal position. An arm (28) is mounted adjacent the supply roll (20) for swinging movement toward and away from the axis of rotation (B-B) of the roll. A peel-off roller (32) is mounted on the distal end of the arm (28) and is rotatable for rolling engagement with the supply roll (20). The liner material carrying the strip (24, 26) of resilient plastic material is directed around the peel-off roller (32) and over an idler roller (34) located at a position such that a force component acting on the arm (28) resulting from the tension in the liner (22) is in the direction of the supply roll (20) for urging the peel-off roller (32) against the supply roll (20). This provides a regular and minimal tension in the liner (22) while the liner (22) is pulled off the supply roll (20) over the idler roller (34) and to a driven liner take-up (38). The diameter of the peel-off roller (32) is small as compared to the diameter of the supply roll (20) causing the liner (22) to undergo a sharp change in direction when leaving the supply roll (20) which facilitates the peeling off of the liner (22). After passing around the idler roller (34) the liner (22) carrying the strip (24, 26) of resilient plastic material passes over a separating roller (36) for separating the strip (24, 26) of resilient plastic material from the liner (22) so that it can be directed to a tire building machine or other apparatus for utilizing the strip (24, 26) of resilient plastic material.

    • A printing system comprises a transport path for transporting a web medium. The transport path comprises a slack region wherein the web medium is slack or substantially tension-free. A take-up roller is positioned at a downstream end of the transport path for receiving and winding the web medium. A tensioning device is positioned along the transport path between the slack region and the take-up roller. The tensioning device comprises a first surface arranged for exerting a friction force on the web medium moving over the first surface in a direction opposite to a transport direction of the transport path, such that the web medium is tensioned between the tensioning device and the take-up roller. Since the friction force tensions the web being wound onto the take-up roller, the wound media rolls are tightly wound when applying "loose winding".
