    • A powder loading device (1) comprising a pair of slap gates (8, 9) prevents the escape of loose powder when powder is transferred from a storage container of a plant to a receiving container (34a). A blower (6a, 6b) inside the loading device (1) moves air from the outside, under the housing of the device, through a filter (4a, 4b), and returns the filtered air to the outside. A backwash device (19, 20a, 20b) is operated periodically to remove the filtered powder from the filter into the receiving container (34a). The powder is delivered from a storage container to the receiving container (34a) through a retractable loading chute (2). A powder detection switch within the retractable loading chute determines when the receiving container (34a) is full and stops the transfer of powder. The result is a powder loading device (1) which maximizes dust collection and minimizes lost loose powder. The powder loading device adapts to various plant and receiving container sizes.

    • A hopper assembly for use in handling particulate materials comprises an outer hopper (28) which defines a tapered volume within the hopper, an inner hopper (26) having a mouth for receiving said particulate materials. The inner hopper (26) is partially nested within the outer hopper (28) to define a space between the inner hopper and the inclined wall of the outer hopper. Additionally or alternatively, a hopper assembly for use in handling particulate materials comprises an outer hopper (28) and a filter (30) through which air is extracted from the assembly to prevent or reduce the emission of airborne particles therefrom, the filter being situated adjacent to a portion of the outer hopper and orientated at substantially the same angle as said adjacent portion.
