摘要： A travel safety device for a motor vehicle comprises a safety device (122) and safety device operation control devices (38, 39, 43). The safety device (122) comprises an object detection device (114) for detecting an object present ahead in the direction of travel of a motor vehicle (100), a relative relationship calculation device (39) for calculating the relative relationship based on the result of detection by the object detection device (114), including the distance between the motor vehicle (100) and the object, based on the result detected, an automatic brake device (120) for automatically decelerating the motor vehicle (100), and a seat belt device (15) for automatically tightening a seat belt (14) and releasing the tightening. The safety device operation control devices (38, 39, 43) automatically determine whether or not there is a possibility of contact between the motor vehicle (100) and the object based on a relative relationship calculated by the relative relationship calculation device (39), and when it is determined that there is a possibility of contact, the devices control the operation of the safety device (122). When the safety device operation control devices (38, 39, 43) determine that there is a possibility of contact, they activate in parallel the automatic brake device (120) and the seat belt device (15).

摘要： A safety arrangement (1) to provide protection for an occupant (2) in a motor vehicle includes a seat-belt (4) provided with a measuring device (8) to measure energy absorbed by the seat-belt. The measuring device may determine the length of safety-belt paid-out after a retractor (5) locks, the belt being paid-out against a force provided by a force-limiter (6). The energy absorbed is calculated and is used to control the vents of a ventable air-bag (15). The air-bag is vented if a substantial part of the energy of the occupant (2) is absorbed by the seat-belt, but is not vented if a large proportion of the energy has not been absorbed by the seat-belt.

摘要： A sensor assembly 40 for measuring seatbelt forces includes a first structural member 50 anchored to a vehicle structure and a second structural member 54 mounted for movement relative to the first structural member 50 in response to a seatbelt force (Fig. 2). A thin member 56 is mounted between the first 50 and second 54 structural members and provides a mounting surface for a sensor 58. The thin member 56 responds to movement of the second structural member 54 to provide high strain levels for the normal working range of the sensor 58. The thin member 56 is mounted between the first 50 and second 54 structural members such that the sensor 58 is isolated from movements due to non-axial loads. The first 50 and second 54 structural members are inter-related to define a maximum range of movement between the first 50 and second 54 members. Thus, overload protection is provided to prevent separation of the first 50 and second 54 structural members when a predetermined load limit is exceeded.

The system includes a seatbelt anchor assembly having a bracket mounted to a vehicle structure adjacent to a vehicle seat. A seatbelt mechanism has a belt portion that is looped through the bracket. The seatbelt is used to secure passengers or an infant car seat to the vehicle seat. A sensor is engaged with the anchor assembly and is used to measure the magnitude of forces exerted on the seatbelt by the passenger or car seat. The sensor generates a signal representative of the seatbelt forces, which is used to control deployment of the airbag.

The system includes a rigid plate member (42) that supports the seatbelt force sensor (40), and which has one end attached to a portion of the seatbelt and an opposite end mounted to a guide bracket (70). The guide bracket (70) includes a pair of circular bosses (72) at one end for pivotally mounting the bracket (70) to a vehicle structure such as a B-pillar (68), for example. The bracket (70) guides the seatbelt in such a manner that input loads to the seabelt that are applied at an angle do not affect the bending of the sensor (40).
