摘要： An adaptive hot melt feed system (10) includes a melt system (14), a feed system (12), a gas control device (16), a sensor, and a controller (18). The melt system (14) includes a heated vessel (30). The feed system (12) is configured to deliver a solid material to the vessel (30) of the melt system (14) for melting. The gas control device (16) is configured to control a supply of gas provided to the feed system to drive the solid material from the feed system (12) to the melt system (14). The sensor can be configured to detect an amount of material in the vessel (30) of the melt system (14). The controller (18) is in electronic communication with the gas control device (16) and is programmed to signal the gas control device (16) to vary the supply of gas to the feed system (12) based on a fill metric determined by the controller (18).

The first platen (4401) is adapted to engage an end of the replenishing web (4405), while the second platen (4402) is adapted to engage and position the moving expiring web (4404). Moving the platens (4401, 4402) together with their respective inner surfaces in close proximity to one another causes a cutting die on the first platen to sever the expiring web (4404) forming outfeeding and infeeding ends of the expiring web, and to attach the expiring web's outfeeding end to the replenishing web (4405). Attached to the second platen (4402) in facing relation to the first platen (4401) and engaging the expiring web (4404) is an ironing pad (4408) to ensure firm contact and adhesion of expiring web (4404) to the replenishing web (4405). During web splicing, the cutting die is transferred from the first (4401) platen to the second platen (4402) to free the replenishing web (4405) from the first platen (44019, with the cutting die engaging and collecting or holding the expiring web's infeeding end.

A substrate (16) is continuously moved through a production line, and this substrate (16) is first provided, in a printing equipment (12), with a printed pattern and thereafter, in an embossing equipment (14), with an embossed pattern, which is registered with the printed pattern. The printing equipment (12) produces the printed pattern in-line with the production of the embossed pattern. During printing in the printing equipment (12), the printed pattern is stretched or compressed, dynamically responsive to indicators of misalignments between the printed pattern and the embossed pattern, so as to correct or prevent the misalignments. A production line for carrying out this process is also proposed.
