摘要： Fluidic conduits (330A), which can be used in microarraying systems (300), dip pen nanolithography systems, fluidic circuits, and microfluidic systems, are disclosed that use channel spring probes (350) that include at least one capillary channel (351). Formed from spring beams (e.g., stressy metal beams) that curve away from the substrate when released, channels (351) can either be integrated into the spring beams (300) or formed on the spring beams. Capillary forces produced by the narrow channels (351) allow liquid to be gathered, held, and dispensed by the channel spring probes. Because the channel spring beams can be produced using conventional semiconductor processes, significant design flexibility and cost efficiencies can be achieved.

摘要： It is an object of this invention to provide a sample integration cassette, a spotting device and a sample integration device which enhance a sample integration density and reduce the size of a sample assembly and a probe. The sample integration cassette has the sample assembly and the sample support carrier so arranged therein that the sample support can be fed from the sample support carrier onto the sample assembly at a predetermined angle to the sample assembly at all times. The cassette is formed so as to be connectable with a drive unit that applies a drive force to the sample assembly and the sample support carrier interlockingly and synchronously. The spotting device has a delivery member mounting table which is vertically moved over the sample support carrier to apply samples to the sample support from the delivery member. The sample integration device rotatably supports the sample support carrier and includes a rotary drive unit for rotating the sample support carrier and the sample assembly and a biasing means connected to the rotary drive unit to pull the cassette in one direction. The sample assembly rotating device includes a rotating shaft to which the sample assembly is fitted at one end, a drive means to drive the rotating shaft, and a power supply for the drive means.

摘要： The invention relates to an improved needle (2) and an improved method for transferring liquids, especially biological material. The invention also relates to a method for the production of said needle. The needle according to the invention has at least one surface capillary (12) in the area of the point thereof (10), which extends preferably in longitudinal direction of the needle beyond the point into a shaft segment of said needle. The inventive needle makes it possible to transport large volumes in one single step during the transfer, for instance, of biological material due to the fact that the needle retains the liquid both by adhesion and by capillary effect. The inventive method for transferring biological material considerably reduces the duration of the process and costs. Lasers can be particularly used in the production of the surface capillary in the inventive needle.

摘要： An array of biomolecules is formed from a solid substrate comprising a surface, where said surface is at least partially covered with a layer of poly(ethylenimine) (PEI), and the layer is divided among a plurality of discrete first regions abutted and surrounded by a contiguous second region. The first regions are defined by the presence of a biomolecule and PEI. The second region is defined by the presence of PEI and the substantial absence of the biomolecule. The array may be prepared by a process including the steps of providing a solid substrate having a surface, wherein a lyer of poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) covers at least a portion of the surface. The layer contains a plurality of discrete first regions abutted and surrounded by a contiguous second region. The process includes the step of depositing a biomolecule into the first regions while maintaining the second region substantially free of the biomolecule.

摘要： It is known to add a diluent to a patient sample prior to applying the diluted sample on to a test surface of a test element. However, this requires the provision of space in a clinical analyzer to allow this dilution to take place, and a longer processing time is required. Described herein is a method by which a liquid material can be uniformly distributed over a surface area (S) of a test element (50) by pretreating the surface (S) with a liquid diluent prior to the dispensing of the liquid material thereto. This is preferably achieved by applying the diluent to a surface (6, 7) of a transfer element (10) as a surface-dispersed quantity, and then placing the surface (6, 7) of the transfer element (10) into instantaneous contact with the surface area (S) of the slide element (50) thereafter.
