摘要： A bed frame with a support structure (20) has a rigid structural frame for carrying an articulating structure (18) for an adjustable bed. The support structure extends substantially to the extents of the articulating structure in an unarticulated position and has a padded bolster (26). The bolster incorporates a mounting support (28) attached to the structural frame and a resilient foam bumper (30) received on the mounting support with a fabric covering surrounding the bumper and fastened to the mounting support. The articulating structure includes rigid planar supports having edges with a surrounding resilient foam layer having a fabric covering secured to the planar support. The bumper and foam layer are resilient to deform upon contact with an intruding appendage inserted between them. For an exemplary embodiment, an electrical outlet is mounted in a housing which penetrates the support frame, mounting support and bumper.

摘要： A long term care bed 10 includes a base frame 12, a plurality of casters 114, 116, 118, 120 coupled to the base frame 12 and engaging the floor 18. The plurality of casters 114, 116, 118, 120 includes a first caster 118 and a second caster 120 spaced apart from the first caster 118. A first brake assembly 180 is coupled to the base frame 12 adjacent to the first caster 118. The first brake assembly 180 includes a pedestal 188 movable between a releasing position spaced apart from the floor 18 and a braking position engaging the floor 18 and an actuator 230 coupled to the pedestal 188 and movable between a releasing position and a braking position moving the pedestal 188 between its releasing and braking positions. A second brake assembly 182 is coupled to the base frame 12 adjacent to the second caster 120. The second brake assembly 182 includes a pedestal 194 movable between a releasing position spaced apart from the floor 18 and a braking position engaging the floor 18. A bar 240 is coupled between the second brake assembly 182 and the first brake assembly 180 so that when the actuator 230 is moved to the braking position, the pedestal 188 of the first brake assembly 180 moves to the braking position and the pedestal 194 of the second brake assembly 182 moves to the braking position and when the actuator 230 is moved to the releasing position the pedestal 188 of the first brake 180 assembly moves to the releasing position and the pedestal 194 of the second brake assembly 182 moves to the releasing position.

A special head restraint apparatus (50) maintains proper patient alignment during rotation. A weight monitoring system monitors a patient's weight over time. A touch screen user interface provides a programmable therapy settings and displays statistics about past treatment. Circuitry is provided to minimise the risk that the failure of any single device or software program could endanger a patient. A "CPR" button is provided to arrest any program of therapy and return the patient support platform to a supine position.

摘要： A dump valve (74) is provided for selectively inflating and deflating an air cushion (40) on a bed (10). The dump valve comprises an elongated housing (78) having an interior region (80) extending along a longitudinal axis (110) and is mounted to a bed deck (18) so the axis is angled relative to the deck. A connector (90) is coupled to a first end (114) of the housing to couple the housing to an air supply. A piston (88) in the interior region can slide between first and second postitions. The first position permits air to pass from the air supply, into the interior region, and through a central opening (104) to inflate the air cushion. The second position blocks air flow from the air supply into the housing and permits air to pass from the cushion, through the central opening, and through an open second end (116) of the housing to deflate the cushion.
