摘要： Apparatus and methods for mixing and dispensing components. The methods and apparatus of the invention are particularly advantageous to manually mix the components of radiopaque bone cement and inject the resulting radiopaque bone cement into skeletal structures. The manually actuated apparatus of the invention comprises: (1) a sealed mixing chamber (295) for mixing components; (2) a dispensing chamber (305) isolated from the sealed mixing chamber; (3) a controllable portal (300) to open a flow path between the sealed mixing chamber and the dispensing chamber so that the dispensing chamber can receive the mixed components after they are mixed; and (4) a drive mechanism (410) associated with the dispensing chamber to force the mixed contents from the dispensing chamber.

摘要： Lower (24) and upper (22) covers permanently secured together form a vial (10) enclosing chamber (52) in a cap assembly (12) which encloses the top of a bone cement mixing apparatus (6) mixing chamber (5) having prepackaged premeasured bone cement powder (7). The vial (10) contains a monomer bone cemnt liquid (8) and may be glass. The vial (10) has two valve seats in corresponding ports (74, 76) on opposing vial side walls sealed by a releaseably secured preferably glass valve member (40) threaded (64, 41) to a nozzle (36) attached to the cap assembly (12). The vial ports (74, 76) are aligned with a mixing chamber (5) liquid inlet port (88) to permit the cement liquid (8) to flow into the mixing chamber (5) from the opened valves. The vial (10) may be supplied enclosed in a separate package and includes valves on a valve stem (54) attached to the package for opening and sealing the vial (10). In the alternative, the vial (10) is frangible glass and may be opened by fracturing it and retaining the fragments in the vial receiving chamber (52) to release the liquid (8) to the mixing chamber (5).

摘要： A monomer dispenser and vial breaker (10) includes a base portion (12) and a cap portion (14) which is attachable to the base portion (12). The base portion (12) is substantially cylindrical, has an inner seat (16) for supporting the shoulder (2) of an ampoule (1), a knurled outer gripping surface (18), an exteriorally threaded portion (20), and an open end (22) with a first locking structure (24). The cap portion (14) is substantially cylindrical, has a first open (26) end with interior threads (28) and a second locking structure (30), a second open end (32), with a strainer and a vial breaking structure (34) located between the first (26) and second (32) open ends. The cap portion (14) is also provided with a knurled outer gripping surface (36). The monomer dispenser and vial breaker (10) operate as follows: an ampoule (1) is inserted into the base (12) so that the shoulder (2) of the ampoule (1) rests on the inner seat (16), the cap (14) is pushed onto the base (12) so that locking structures (24,30) engage, and the base (12) and/or the cap (14) are twisted relative to each other so that the threaded portions (20,28) engage. As the cap (14) and base (12) are threaded together, the vial breaking structure (56) breaks the bottom of the ampoule (1). The assembled device (10) is then inverted to dispense the monomer through the second open end (32) of the cap (14). After the dispenser (10) is assembled and the monomer is dispensed, the locking structures (24,30) prevent the device (10) from being disassembled.

摘要： The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for successively feeding batches into a mixing vessel (2) under partial vacuum for the preparation of bone cement. The arrangement (1) comprises, on the one hand, an inner container (9) communicating with the atmosphere and with the mixing vessel (2), which container is so arranged as to enclose a glass ampoule (11) containing a liquid bone cement component (A) and, on the other hand, a device (13a) for opening the ampoule (11) so that its contents, under the effect of the partial vacuum inside the mixing vessel (2), can be sucked down into it. An outer container (10) encloses the inner container (9) at least partially and is so arranged as to communicate with the mixing vessel (2). Together with the inner container (9), the outer container (10) defines a space (15) filled with a certain quantity of a second bone cement component (B) in powder form. The inner container (9) is capable of displacement relative to the outer container (10) between a first position, in which sections of the inner container prevent communication between the mixing vessel (2) on the one hand and the atmosphere on the other hand, and a second position, in which communication between both the mixing vessel (2) and the atmosphere is open, so that the bone cement component (B) in powder form, under the effect of the partial vacuum inside the mixing vessel (2), can be sucked down into it. Feeding of the bone cement components (A, B) can take place in an arbitrary sequence.

摘要： A bone cement mixing apparatus comprising a mixing chamber (2), a mixing element (4) rotatably mounted in the mixing chamber (2) and drive means (7) for causing rotation of the mixing element (4). In one embodiment, the drive means (7) is a handle axially movable relative to the mixing chamber (2). A gear mechanism between the handle (7) and the mixing element (4) translates axial movement of the handle into rotation of the mixing element. In another embodiment the drive means (7) is carried by a lid assembly (9) of the chamber (2). The lid assembly and drive means are detachable from the chamber and from the mixing element (4) so that the lid assembly and drive means can be reused with a new chamber and mixing element.
