    • This disclosure describes a multi-junction, multi-spectral solar converter and methods of its manufacture for converting solar energy into electricity. Processed on GaP, AlAs, InGaAsN, InGaP, GaAs, Ge, Si, diamond, or any substrates sensitive to one or more regions the solar spectrum, the converter may be sized to contain one to several thousand junctions illuminated with the solar beam parallel to the junctions. In preferred embodiments, neighboring junctions are connected by a highly-conducting layer electrically in series to produce a low series resistance in the converter for a high conversion efficiency. Several converters with different substrates of different bandgaps are assembled to form a composite converter capable of multi-spectral as well as multi-junction conversion of solar energies from the ultraviolet through to the infrared.
