    • A wedge socket assembly (9) having a wedge socket (10), a pin (40) for connecting objects to the wedge socket, a wedge (50); and a bolt (64) for holding the wedge in the wedge socket. The wedge socket (10) has an elongated, hollow basket (12) of substantially rectangular cross section. The hollow basket (12) has a large opening (16) at a first end (14), a small opening (20) at a second end (18) and an interior cross section tapering from said large opening (16) to said small opening (20). Connected to the basket (12) are a pair of jaws (30, 30') extending from opposite sides of the first end (14), and the jaws each have an opening (34, 34') therethrough aligned with one another, with the pin (40) inserted through the openings and retained by a cotter pin (42). The wedge (50) has a first wedge portion (52) with a large end (54) and a small end (56), and is of substantially the same shape as the interior of the basket (12). An extended portion (58) is connected to the small end (56) of the first wedge portion (52) and has an opening (60) therethrough, and is sized such that when the wedge is positioned within the basket the extended portion (58) extends through the small opening (20). The bolt (64) is inserted into the opening (60) in the extended portion (58), and is retained in the opening by a nut (66). In an alternate embodiment, a forged wire rope clip connects a wire rope to the extended wedge portion (58) through the opening (60).

    • An improved connector for coupling a chain to a wire rope or cable such that the resulting connection can be passed over a sheave, pulley, wheel or windlass without applying a bending stress to the wire rope. The connector comprises a hemispherical housing having an opening therethrough that is axially symmetric about the radius that is perpendicular to the planar portion of the hemispherical housing. The opening is adapted to accept and retain a wire rope having a terminal fitting by holding the terminal fitting within the hemispherical housing. A semi-circular member of common radius to the hemispherical housing and adapted to accept and retain a chain is attached to the planar portion of the hemispherical housing. A pair of retaining pins pass through the co-axial openings in the hemispherical housing and the end of the semi-circular member terminating on flat surfaces on opposite sides of the terminal fitting of the wire rope. In this manner the essentially spherical connector is held in an assembled state with the wire rope being rigidly affixed within the connector. Such a connector is useful in eliminating bending stress at the wire rope connector as it passes over a sheave or the like and also allows for smaller and more economical sheaves to be employed.

    • A field adjustable block (10) for use with a bridge crane (12) having a rotating cylindrical drum (14) for rope. The block (10) includes a cylindrical center pin (30) having a key way recess (40) parallel to an axis of the center pin (30). An inner side plate (42) has an opening (44) therethrough and an extending key (46) receivable in the key way recess (40) to prevent rotation of the inner side plate (42). Multiple sheaves (50) are receivable over the center pin (30). At least one toroidal spacer (54) is receivable over the center pin (30). A lock washer (58) has an inwardly extending key (60) receivable in the key way recess (40) of the center pin (30) and has a plurality of radially extending tabs (62). A nut (64) has at least one notch (66) to receive one of the extending tabs (62) therein. An outer side plate (70) is removably attached to the inner side plate (42) by fasteners (72).
