U-section reading devices (30 - 33) straddle the encoder to read the code and produce an electrical coded output.
To avoid problems caused by readings at changeover points, the lowest significance digit-displaying drum (13) is associated with an impulse drive which is triggered at each changeover point to drive the drum forward so that it does not come to rest at the changeover point. The impulse drive comprises an off-centre weight which rotates with the drum.

摘要： Surfaces such as lead alloys, to which paint does not adhere well, have previously been shot blasted with an abrasive, cleaned and then coated with the pain or similar coating. It is now found that dry epoxy powder may be projected at high pressure at such surfaces and will form a conditioning layer to which paint will adhere well. The conditioning layer penetrates into the surface to form a mechanical bond. In one example, dry epoxy powder paint is projected by air at 5.5 bar pressure onto terne steel to condition it. This is followed by electrostatic coating with the same epoxy powder paint and heat treatment.

摘要： A meter has a liquid crystal (20) on which is displayed the value of a metered quantity, for direct visual reading. A single flashing zone (26) is arranged to display a binary-coded representation of the same value as a timed sequence of flashes. The binary 0's and l's are represented by the presence or absence of flashes.
The flashing code is read by a photo-electric sensor (22) which transmits electrical signals to remote reading station (24). Thus there are no direct connections to the meter.
In an alternative arrangement, fibre optics transmit the flashes of light to a remote station.

The controller has a print-out section which shows whether the meter is within a predetermined accuracy range, and if not, what correction is required.

A gas meter casing having a face-to-face seal sealed with this composition is subjected to a fire test. The drawing shows an enlarged cross-section of the seal after the fire test in which it can be seen that the beads (11) have melted, distorted and stuck to one another and the surrounding ash (13) to present a barrier to the escape of gas in the meter.

摘要： Commodity meter (11) is adapted for prepayment by insertion of credit card (32) into a card reader and eraser unit (30). The unit sends a command signal over a multicore cable (21) to drive a motor (18) within the meter casing.
Motor (18) drives a cam (16) to a rotational orientation representing the amount of credit. Mechanical drive (17) from metering elements (not shown) drives cam (16) to reduce the amount of credit. At zero credit cam (16) holds a valve (14) closed, while in credit representing positions it is opened. The valve is connected in the flow line of the commodity through the meter.
Should cable (21) be severed, the mechanical drive continues to reduce the credit until the valve closes.
