摘要： A video image data field to be compression-encoded is divided into rectangular blocks. Each of the rectangular blocks is compared (130) with a corresponding (132) block of a reference image to generate comparison data. The block of the image to be encoded is selected for representation if the comparison data for the block meets a selection criterion. Mapping data is generated which is indicative of locations in the image plane corresponding to the selected blocks. The image to be encoded is represented in compressed form by header data (106), the mapping data (108) and image data representative of the selected blocks. When the reference image is compression encoded (206), the blocks may be expanded in areas of the reference image which correspond to a low information density. System configuration consists of a back panel (46) which is coupled to a front end processing/compression unit (42) which interfaces with a motherboard (40) through a PCI bus.

摘要： A self-checkout/self-check-in and electronic article surveillance (EAS) system (1) is provided. EAS tags and radio frequency identification (RFID) tags are connected to articles for use with the invention. A preferred embodiment for self-checkout (7) includes a housing having a cavity for receiving articles for self-checkout. The cavity is disposed within a deactivation zone. The RFID tags are read (18), and after verification (21) of an authorized transaction, a deactivation antenna (16) is energized to deactivate the EAS tags, and a stored inventory database (5) is updated. Information about the transaction can be displayed. A preferred embodiment for self-check-in includes an elongated housing into which articles are deposited for return. Once deposited, the articles pass through the housing and out the other end. As the articles are deposited, the RFID tags on the articles are read, the inventory database (5) is updated, and an activation antenna (17) is energized to form an activation zone through which the articles pass as they fall through the housing, thus activating the attached EAS tags. The magnetic fields used for activation and deactivation are magnetic media safe for use with articles containing magnetic recording media.
