摘要： An applicator (10) for particulate carpet-cleaning compositions having a cylindrical body (14) formed of relatively rotatable inner and outer concentric cylindrical members (18, 16) in 360 DEG frictional nested engagement, separately attached non-rotatably to opposite wheel members (34, 36) of greater diameter than the body, and having dispensing apertures (24) in one cylinder which may be closed by the other depending on relative rotational positions. 摘要： A kit (10) for visual demonstration of principles relating to carpets and carpet care. The kit includes a horizontal base member, vertical members (30) removably securable in erect position with respect to the base member at their proximal ends (32), and means (28) on the base member to hold the vertical members in carrying position when not in their erect positions. A highly preferred base member is a transparent rigid box (12) with spaced upper and lower walls (22, 14), the vertical members being attached to the lower wall and extending loosely through openings (24) in the upper wall. The method includes applying dirt onto a shaft near its distal end and, when the shaft is erect on the lower wall of the preferred base member, executing a cleaning step. The cleaning step may involve applying a free liquid, which carries dirt through the opening into the rigid box, or rubbing with a damp wiper and then removing the dirty wiper from a position on top of the rigid box.

摘要： A carpet cleaning machine (10) is convertible for brush-aided cleaning or vacuuming. The machine (10) includes a pair of powered brushes (13, 15) counter-revolving for stroking solvent-dampened carpet cleaning particles (17) through the carpet (11) and along carpet fibers during initial cleaning. A detachable, separately-powered pod (27) is connected to a machine-mounted vacuum nozzle (33) to pick up the dirt-laden particles (17) during brush-aided carpet vacuuming after initial cleaning. The pod (27) has first and second media (21, 23) selected to remove particles (17) of differing sizes from air flowing through the pod (27). During initial carpet cleaning when vacuum is not used, the pod (27) may be detached and used in another area for hand-vacuuming carpeted stairs and the like.

摘要： A robot-like machine (10) for treating a surface area (33) within a boundary perimeter (31) (such as cleaning a carpet within a room) is guided using data developed from a graphic depiction representing the area (33). The graphic depiction may be for example, a blueprint (29). The machine (10) includes a self propelled chassis (75) having a working head (73) such as a vacuum nozzle (73b) mounted on it. A computing section (65) provides signals causing the machine (10) to move across the surface area (33) and a position sensor (69) generates a feedback signal representing the actual position of the machine (10). The computing section (65) is arranged for processing graphic data and the feedback signal and responsively generating command signals directed to each motor module (67). The machine (10) is capable of selectively treating portions of the surface area (33) such as those portions which become soiled more quickly.
