摘要： Device for measuring tension in mechanical constructions, comprising an optical fibre provided with a first Bragg grating (121), an elongated housing (101) encompassing the optical fibre (120). An elongated support member (103) with a mechanical strength greater than the strength of the optical fibre (120) is arranged in the housing (101) and attached to one end of the housing (101). The optical fibre (120) extends through the support member (103) and the housing (101), and is strapped in three attachment sites (111, 112, 113). Two Bragg gratings (121, 122) are arranged in the fibre between attachment sites (111, 112) and between attachment sites (112, 113). The device thus establishes two segments of the optical fibre (120), each of which contains a Bragg grating. The first Bragg grating (121) serves to measure tension forces exerted on the housing (101) and the other Bragg grating (122) serves to compensate for temperature variations.

摘要： A method is disclosed, for application of an optical fibre with a core (1) and a cladding (2) as a hydrostatic pressure sensor. A fibre-optic Bragg grating (5) is written into the core (1) of the optical fibre and two side-holes (3) are included in the cladding (2). Said side-hole optical fibre is spliced in-between standard single mode fibres (6), so that a change in differential pressure between the surroundings and the side-holes will cause a change in the fibre birefringence. This gives a change in wavelength separation between the two reflection peaks of the grating corresponding to each of the two orthogonal polarisation eigenmodes of the fibre, with an enhanced pressure sensitivity compared to the pressure included wavelength shift of a standard fibre grating. The side-hole fibre has a total birefrigence in the operating pressure range sufficient to split the two grating reflection, and such that the two peaks do not cross each other under operation.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for interrogating optical sensors with high slew rates using non-uniform sampling are provided. The transmission of optical signals in a non-uniform pattern is employed to allow for demodulation of fringe rates exceeding the commonly understood Nyquist frequency limit given as one half of the mean sampling frequency. By monitoring the time dependent fringe frequency and assuming that the fringe frequency has a limited bandwidth, only a limited bandwidth smaller than the Nyquist bandwidth around the instantaneous fringe frequency needs to be reconstructed at any time.
