摘要： A magnetic door catch (10, 20), for a door (100) and frame (301) assembly of an oven, has a first magnetic member (10) slidable in a housing (102), on the door (100), against resistance supplied by a leaf spring (204). The member (10) has opposed pole pieces (12. 13) to attract a striking plate (20) on the frame (301). The pole pieces (12, 13) are dimensioned so that there is substantially no variation in the magnetic force between the member (10) and the plate (20) with change in temperature of the oven. The plate (20) is resiliently mounted on rods (302,303) by helical-coiled springs (S, S.) Alternatively, the housing (102) may be resiliently mounted.

摘要： In order to limit the disturbance to the mains supply caused by periodic energisation and de-energisation of a resistive load such as the heater of the grill of an electric cooker, the heater is split into two heating elements which are energised alternately each for a period of time set by a user operable control 2. The mark to space ratio of the energisation of the partial loads 1 a and 1 b is varied in dependence upon the setting of the control 2. In order to provide fast response when the apparatus is first turned on, circuitry 16 overrides the proportion of control and energises both loads 1a and 1b simultaneously for a predetermined period of time long enough to bring the heater up to its working temperature. Means are also disclosed to isolate the heaters in the event of failure of the triacs which control their energisation.

摘要： An electric cooker or cooking hob has a ceramic plate (2) on which there are a number of hot plate areas each heated by a respective annular heating element (4) disposed within an insulating housing (7). Atemperature dependent resistor (9) is disposed below the hot plate area at the centre of focus of a reflector (8) which is arranged to focus radiant energy from the hot plate area onto the resistor (9) while at the same time shielding the resistor (9) from direct radiation from the electric heating element (4). The signal derived from the resistor (9) is a measure of the temperature of the hot plate and can be used to provide a thermal tripping function to prevent over-heating of the hot plate area and/or to carry out closed loop control of the temperature of the hot plate area. The reflector (8) may be replaced by a shield which shields the resistor (9) from direct heating by the heater.
A further annular heating element surrounding the element (4) may be provided, with the control circuitry enabling either the element (4) alone or element (4) plus the outer element to be energised.
