    • A support frame (10) attaches a truck mounted attenuator (12) to a backup vehicle (V1). The support frame (10) includes a rear section (14) connected to a front section (16) by a linkage (18) which includes two spaced side frames (20). The side frames (20) each include three hinges (26,28,30), with the intermediate hinge (28) arranged to fold outwardly in an impact. The hinges (26,28,30) pivot about vertical hinge axes such that the front section (16) is supported during pivoting of the hinges. The support frame (10) is held in an initial configuration by restraining cables (34) connected between the linkage (18) and the front section (16). The cables (34) are releasably secured to the front section (16) by a trigger mechanism (36) which is activated by the position of a probe (38) mounted to the TMA(12).
