    • With increasing automotive vehicle engine performance, recently engine compression ratio has been raised and therefore engine ignition voltage also has become high. To prevent generation of corona discharge at terminals of high voltage resistive wires used as ignition cords, a metallic cap is fixed to at least one exposed core wire end by a bonding agent, and further a metallic terminal is fitted to the metallic cap and caulked to the metallic cap and the insulating material simultaneously. Since a core wire end is sufficiently buried in the bonding agent and protected by the terminal, it is possible to prevent generation of cracks or partial peeling-off of the bonding agent, thus preventing burning trouble and improving life of the resistive wire.

    • The discharge tube has an insulating tube formed into a hollow cylinder with one end open and the other closed. An anode electrode, which is formed as a flanged electrode, is hermetically fitted to the open end of the insulating tube and a cathode electrode, which is formed as a bar electrode, is embedded in the closed end of the insulating tube so that only the front end surface of the bar electrode faces the interior of the insulating tube. This construction allows no redundant space within the insulating tube other than the discharge space, so that the discharge tube can be minimized in size. This construction also permits a discharge only between the front end of the bar electrode and the inner end of the flanged electrode, stabilizing the electron emission passage or discharge path and therefore the discharge voltage.

    • According to the present invention, in a high tension cable device including a casing having at one end portion a connecting terminal capable of being engaged with a terminal of an ignition plug and at the other end portion a power supply terminal connected to a high tension cable which communicates with a power supply side, and a series gap-forming discharge tube incorporated in the casing and connected to both the connecting terminal and power supply terminal, there is provided an improvement characterized in that at least on the inner periphery of the casing there is formed an insulating layer using an electrical insulating material which insulating layer covers the connecting terminal, the power supply terminal and the discharge tube incorporated in between these terminals.

    • A discharge tube of the type wherein a voltage is applied across a pair of electrodes to cause a discharge between the anode side electrode and the cathode side electrode. In the new discharge tube, opposing end portions of said pair of electrodes are formed into a non-acute configuration, and a large number of concave or convex portions are formed on a surface at least of said cathode side electrode. A stabilized high discharge voltage can be obtained from an initial stage of discharging with a comparatively small distance between the electrodes. Further, since the surface area of the electrodes is great, exhaustion of the electrodes are dispersed, and the electrodes are superior in durability. Further, since the distance between the electrodes is small, the discharge maintaining voltage is low and the energy loss is decreased.
