    • An inhaler (1) comprising a housing (2) to receive a plurality of blisters (6a) each having a puncturable lid (6c) and containing a dose of medicament for inhalation by a user is disclosed. The inhaler comprises a mouthpiece (5) through which a dose of medicament is inhaled by a user, an indexing wheel (23) around which the blisters extend and an actuator (3) operable to rotate said indexing wheel to sequentially move each blister into alignment with a blister piercing member (9). The actuator is also operable to cause the blister piercing member to puncture the lid of an aligned blister such that, when a user inhales through the mouthpiece, an airflow through the blister is generated to entrain the dose contained therein and carry it out of the blister and via the mouthpiece into the user's airway. The housing includes a chamber into which used blisters are fed by the indexing wheel.

    • A dry powder inhaler (1) for delivering a dose of medicament for inhalation by a user is disclosed. The inhaler comprises a drug entrainment device including a drug outlet tube (23) terminating with a primary piercing element (24) to pierce an opening in a lid (12b) when a pack is located in the inhaler, a secondary piercing member (26) to pierce a plurality of peripheral openings in said lid and, an airflow path to enable the supply of a charge of gas into the pack via said peripheral openings to scour the interior of a pierced pack such that substantially all of the dose is entrained in the gas and flows out of the pack via the drug outlet tube.     • A blister piercing element (75) for puncturing the lid of a blister containing a dose of medicament for inhalation by a user is disclosed. The piercing element comprises a body portion (33) having a surface (34), an outlet opening (37,38) in the surface for the passage of medicament entrained in an airflow out of the blister and, a piercing head (70) having a first portion (71) upstanding from said surface and a second portion (72) overhanging the opening that cuts a flap in a lid of a blister and pushes it away from the opening during insertion through said lid. The second portion extends laterally from an end of the first portion and the second portion comprises a primary cutting edge (77) formed at the free end of the second portion. The primary cutting edge is remote from the surface and has a tip at one end. The primary cutting edge is angled relative to the plane of a blister lid such that only said tip initially meets the blister lid to initiate a slit in the lid.

When a user inhales through the mouthpiece, air is drawn through the or each airflow inlet opening into the blister via the outside air inlet and the primary chamber to entrain the dose in the airflow, said entrained dose passing through the or each airflow outlet opening into the secondary chamber of the mouthpiece from where it is carried into the user's airway.
