    • A vacuum cleaner for reducing noise from being transmitted to the exterior. The vacuum cleaner includes a main body (10) forming an outer appearance of the vacuum cleaner and including a blower unit (20) for generating suction force and blowing force and a discharge hole (10a) through which purified air from which foreign matter has been filtered is discharged, a discharge passage (42) for guiding air discharged from the blower unit to the discharge hole (10a), and a spiral shaped intercepting passage (42a) for forming a part of the discharge passage (42) and for preventing noise of the blower unit from being transmitted to the exterior. A guide member (43) forming the intercepting passage (42a) is disposed at the outside of the blower unit and serves as an acoustic absorber so that noise transmission to the exterior is reduced.

    • A single-phase induction motor and a method for reducing noise in the same, which can eliminate unbalance between magnetomotive forces of main (1) and auxiliary (2) windings in a stator of the motor, thereby implementing a low noise, low vibration motor, and can also achieve balance between the magnetomotive forces of the stator windings in the entire running range of the motor, and can further achieve balance between the magnetomotive forces of the stator windings on the basis of temperature increase of the motor as it runs. The amplitude of a main-winding current (Im) flowing through the main winding in the stator is controlled to be equal to the amplitude of an auxiliary-winding current (Ia) flowing through the auxiliary winding in the stator, and the phase difference between the main-winding and auxiliary-winding currents is controlled to be maintained at a predetermined value.
