    • The system comprises at least one main pneumatic duct (MP), actuators (BC1, BC2) for the service brake and the supplementary brake, at least one auxiliary reservoir (AR) connected to the main duct (MP) and at least one compact electropneumatic control assembly (G1, G2; G12). This assembly has an inlet connector (a) connected to the main duct (MP), an inlet/outlet connector (e) connected to the reservoir (AR) and further connected, within the assembly (G1 G2; G12), to the said inlet connector (a) to allow supply to the reservoir (AR) of air under pressure from the main duct (MP), and a plurality of further inlet/outlet connectors (b) connected to the service and supplementary brake actuators (BC1, BC2). At least at one pneumatic control circuit (PNC1) for controlling the service and supplementary brake is connected between the said reservoir (AR) and the said further inlet/outlet connectors (b1, b2) and comprise a plurality of solenoid control valves (EVF, EVS, EVSOC) and pressure sensors/transducers (S, T). An electronic communications and control unit (ECU) is connected to a communications bus (VB), to the sensors, transducers (S, T) and to the said solenoid control valves (EVF, EVS, EVSOC), and control these latter to perform service braking or supplementary braking.

    • The system is intended for use in a railway train (1) with at least one engine (2) and a plurality of wagons or carriages (3). This system comprises first and second bi-directional transmission lines (4,5) which extend along the train (1); a main control unit (6) installed on the main engine (2) and connected, in this engine, to both the transmission lines (4,5) and to brake control devices or systems (7) of the train (1); and a plurality of slave control units (9), each of which is installed on a respective wagon or carriage (3) and is connected, in the respective carriage or wagon, to both transmission lines (4,5), to solenoid valve units (11) associated with pneumatic brake actuators (12), as well as two sensor devices (10) associated with the wagon or carriage (3). The main control unit (6) and the slave control units (9) are arranged to talk to one another through the transmission lines (4,5) according to a serial protocol. The main unit (6) is arranged to transmit brake control signals to the slave units (9) and to receive and acquire information and state signals coming from the said slave control units (9) via the said transmission lines (4,5). The main control unit (6) and the slave control units (9) are arranged to talk to one another at one working frequency (f 0 ) on one of the transmission lines (4,5) and at a second and different working frequency (f 1 ) on the other of the transmission lines (4,5).
