    • A flushable electrochemical reference cell (10) is disclosed, in which clogging of junctions of the cell by contaminants can be prevented or minimized. The cell incorporates a triple junction (22,24,26) design with dual, independently operative flushing systems (28,32;34,38). The first flushing system (28;32) flushes the interior of the first junction (22) and the exterior of the second junction (24), and the second flushing system (34,38) flushes the interior of the second junction (24) and the exterior of the third junction (26). When the cell (10) is used in-line on a chemical process stream, pressure equalizing means (40) are employed between the stream and the standard electrode, of which the third junction (26) is an element. Elevation of the exits (30,36) of the flushing systems (28,32;34,38) above the junctions (22,24,26) releases air from the cell which may collect at the junctions and impair the accuracy of the readings.
