    • An optical writing device (111) includes: a light source (250) including arrays (502) arranged in a main scanning direction, each array (502) including light-emitting elements arranged in the main scanning direction; a correction-value holding unit (222) to hold, correspondingly with a light-emitting element, a correction value for changing timing to read out pixel data stored in an image storage unit (210); and a light-source drive unit (221) to drive the light source (250) by reading out the stored pixel data stored, according to the correction value.
      The correction-value holding unit (222) includes a first area for holding a first correction value corresponding to a first light-emitting element located at an end of an array (502) and a second area for holding a second correction value corresponding to a second light-emitting element other than the first light-emitting element, the first holding area being larger than the second holding area.

    • A misregistration correcting device includes an image forming unit (9Y,9M,9C, and 9BK), a sensor (17,18,19), a reading unit, and a determining unit. The image forming unit (9Y,9M,9C, and 9BK) form a set of misregistration correcting patterns (22) that includes a reference pattern. The sensor (17,18,19) start detecting the set when a predetermined time has elapsed after start of image formation for the first set. The reading unit reads positional information of the set upon detection of the set. The determining unit determines timing to start detecting subsequent sets of misregistration correcting patterns based on positional information of the reference pattern in the first set.
