    • A freeze-drying plant consisting overall of a condenser chamber (2) and a drying chamber (1), the drying chamber (1) of which is fitted with a system of superimposed, possibly adjustable supporting plates (9) acting as supports for phials (13) containing a drying substance, is fitted for the continuous determination of the mass of the drying substance and hence to monitor the drying cycle with weighing cells (15) connected to a phial (13) via a clamp arm (16). The weighing cells (15) are either permanently fitted inside the drying chamber (1), e.g. on its wall or on components which cannot move in relation to the wall, or they are directly on the supporting plates (9). The basis of the weighing principle of said weighing cells (15) is that either the supporting plate (9) of the phial (13) concerned is lowered with the weighing cell (15) in a constant position or the weighing cell (15) comprises a lifting device by means of which the phial (13) can be briefly raised. It is thus possible, together with fast measurement processes, to determine the mass of the drying substance virtually continuously without disturbing the drying process.

    • The invention relates to a device essentially for loading and unloading the floor area (3') of the drying chamber (2) of a freeze-drying installation, said floor area being located at a defined height position of the unloading position, which is characterised by a carriage (8) that is arranged slightly above said floor area, extends transversely to a movement direction (8') during loading or unloading and parallel to the floor area and forms a movable guiding edge for the drying vessels (5), and by guides (7) that are arranged on both sides of the floor area (3'), extend parallel to said movement direction and form fixed guiding edges for the drying vessels (5). The carriage (8) is driven by two linear motors, the respective secondary parts (18) of which are rigidly connected to the two ends of the carriage (8) and on which the guides (7) simultaneously receiving the primary parts are mounted. All components of the device thus defined are located inside the drying chamber (1), resulting in a mechanically extremely simple, low-wear construction. The structural design of such a device permits the implementation of lateral guides (7) independent of the floor area within the drying chamber (2) and is suitable for a retrofitting by progressive stages of existing freeze-drying installations with a view to using a plurality of carriages, rendering the guides (7) displaceable laterally, i.e. transversely to the movement direction (8'), etc.. Because the essential components of said device can be constructed in a hermetically sealed manner and can therefore easily be sterilised, from the point of view of hygiene the device can be managed safely.

    • A freeze-drying system (1) consists among other things of an arrangement of individual storage shelves (19) that are vertically guided in a frame (20) and can each be transferred into a displacement plane in which lateral guides (20, 21) intended for receiving a carriage (15) are fixedly arranged horizontally, cooperating with the guides (16, 18) of the loading and unloading device located outside the drying chamber in order to guide the carriage (15). The arrangement of the storage shelves (19) relative to the displacement plane is designed with the condition that drying containers can be pushed onto the storage shelf (19) in the displacement plane by means of the back side (24) of the carriage (15) functioning as the first guiding edge, all storage shelves (19) of the drying chamber being fillable by cyclical repetition of this process. In order to unload the drying chamber, the arrangement of storage shelves (19) is moved into a position in which the carriage (15) can be moved across the displacement plane into its rear limit position inside the drying chamber, travelling in the process under each loaded storage shelf (19), wherein after lowering of the next higher storage shelf (19) into the displacement plane, the carriage (15) can then be used for pushing out the drying containers supported thereon by means of its front side (23) acting as the guiding edge. The unloading process for the drying chamber is completed by moving the carriage (15) cyclically in the displacement plane into the aforementioned rear limit position and pushing out the drying containers on the subsequently lowered storage shelf (19) by means of the carriage (15). It is a particular advantage that aseptic conditions are easily provided because the carriage travels only under loaded storage shelves (19).
