    • An image forming apparatus equipped with a binding function includes an image forming unit (8) for forming an image onto a sheet, a binding unit (30) provided adjacent to the image forming unit (8), and a malfunction detector (47) for detecting malfunction in the operation of the binding unit (30). The binding unit (30) is provided with a binding condition display (24, 25), and the image forming unit (8) is provided with an alphanumeric character display (21) and a device for instructing the start of an image forming operation. A detected malfunction is indicated by at least one of these displays (21, 24, 25). Upon detection of a malfunction by the malfunction detector (47), operation of the binding unit stops, or the entire operation of the apparatus stops.

    • An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit (1); a binding unit (30) provided adjacent to the image forming unit (1); a a control unit (60) for controlling the image forming unit (1) and the binding unit (30) which forbids the operation of either one of these units during the operation of the other; a timer for measuring the binding operation time; a monitor which indicates operating conditions of the image forming unit and the binding unit and which functions as a timer display; a temperature measuring unit for measuring a reference temperature for the binding unit (30); and a time setter which adjusts the operation time of the binding unit (30) accordingly. In this apparatus, the monitor indicates the operating conditions of both the image forming unit (1) and the binding unit (30), allowing an operator to learn the binding status easily. Since the control unit (60) forbids operation of either the image forming unit (1) or the binding unit (30) during operation of the other unit, excessive consumption of electric power is prevented. The operation time of the binding unit is set according to the reference temperature. Consequently, even if there is a change in the ambient temperature, an operation time appropriate to the temperature will be set, and a good quality binding process will be ensured.

    • An image forming apparatus is provided with an exposure lamp (3) for emitting the light so as to illuminate a document; a magnification changer for increasing and reducing the magnification of a reflected light image from the document; an imaging assembly including a photosensitive member (10) and a charger (11) for charging the photosensitive member (10), and adapted for forming an image on the surface of the photosensitive member (10) based on the reflected light image passed through the magnification changer, a developing device (16) for causing charged toner to deposit on the formed image whereby to form a toner image, and a controller for controlling a light emission amount of the exposure lamp (3) so as to attain a desired toner image density. The control means includes a calculator for calculating the light emission amount according to the set magnification based on a relationship between the light emission amount and the magnification of the magnification changer so as to attain the desired toner image density, and a correcting device for correcting the calculated light emission amount based on a relationship between a factor other than the magnification which influences the toner image density. Accordingly, the light emission amount of the exposure lamp (3) can be set in accordance with various factors including the document density such that an image of the desired image density can be obtained even in an enlargement mode or a reduction mode.
