    • Disclosed is a hydraulic drive system for a working machine, which enables to provide improved safety during forced regeneration. Upon input of a forced regeneration command signal (So) from a forced regeneration switch (65), a controller (60) detects non-operated states of all hydraulic actuators such as an arm cylinder (17) arranged on a hydraulic excavator (1) based on a lock detection signal (S1) from a gate lock detection switch (52), and also an attitude of a front working mechanism (12), said attitude being proper from the standpoint of safety, based on an arm angle signal (Sa) from an arm angle sensor (53), a bucket angle signal (Sb) from a bucket angle sensor (54) and a boom pressure signal (Spb) from a boom pressure sensor (55). Taking the detection of the non-operated states and proper attitude as conditions, the controller (60) outputs control signals (Cp,Cf) to a boosting proportional solenoid valve (62) and flow-rate controlling, proportional solenoidvalve (64) to make a forced regeneration means (boosting proportional solenoid valve (62), boosting on/off valve (61), flow-rate controlling, proportional solenoid valve (64), regulator (63)) conduct forced regeneration.
