    • The invention relates to a tool (10) for attaching valve keys (20) to a valve stem (4). The tool comprises an elongated holder (30) with a longitudinal axis (A), an inner hollow space (36) and an end opening (34), and also an elongated core (40), which is arranged in the hollow space (36) of the holder (30) coaxially to the longitudinal axis (A). Two transfer passages (44) in symmetry with the longitudinal axis (A) are provided in the tool for supplying valve keys (20) to the valve stem. The invention is characterized in that an elongated recess (70) for receiving a substantial upper portion of the valve stem (4) is provided in the end region (42) of the core (40) coaxially to the longitudinal axis (A), wherein the recess (70) of the core (40) issues into the end opening (34) and has a depth (T) which is greater than or at least equal to the axial distance (D) between the end and the annular groove of the valve stem. This has the effect that, upon reception of the upper portion of a valve stem (4), the core (40), in particular the end region (42) thereof, at least partially covers the at least one annular groove (16), such that the valve keys (20) can be supplied to the lateral surface of a valve stem (4) underneath the at least one annular groove (16) and incorrect engagement can be reliably avoided.
