The large plugs have a central bore (26) for receiving the glass sensing electrode (16). The impermeable plug has protrusions (40) to provide a better seal between the impermeable plug and the glass sensing electrode and the impermeable plug and the housing (12) in which the salt bridge is inserted. In addition, the sensor may also include a rigid liner (60) between the large plugs and the glass sensing electrode to act as a barrier to prevent damage to this sensing electrode during and after impregnation.
