    • In an incubator (11) according to the present invention, physical condition of a newborn is less likely to get out of order though a hand insertion window (33) can easily be opened by operation with, for example, an elbow instead of a hand. A latch (41) in a latch mechanism (35) has a spiral face (46) that extends to at least part of the periphery of a rotation shaft (44) that extends along a side of a newborn chamber (16). A releasing member (43) in the latch mechanism (35) presses the spiral face (46) of the latch (41) by movement along the side of the newborn chamber (16) and rotates the latch (41) from a holding position to a releasing position for a hand insertion door (34). In addition, even if the latch (41) in the latch mechanism (35) rotates about the rotation shaft (44) between the holding and releasing positions for the hand insertion door (34), the releasing member (43) does not rotate.

    • In this invention, a grommet structure (21) in an incubator (1) includes a grommet attaching portion (22) provided to the enclosure (3) of the incubator (1) and a grommet member (13) attached to the grommet attaching portion (22). The grommet member (13) includes a longitudinal member holding incision (16) to hold a longitudinal member (15) such as an oxygen supply tube that extends through it. The longitudinal member holding incision (16) forms at least one substantially S-shaped shape (in other words, a substantially sine-curved shape) and/or a substantially waving shape. This invention can provide the grommet structure (21) in the incubator (1), in which the longitudinal member (15) such as an oxygen supply tube held by the longitudinal incision (16) of the grommet member (13) and extending through the incision (16) is less likely to move accidentally in the longitudinal direction of the incision (16) or in the longitudinal direction of the longitudinal member (15). Also, a gap through which the inside and outside of the enclosure (3) communicate with each other can be small even when the longitudinal member (15) extends through the incision (16).

    • A hand insertion door board (36) is attached to the peripheral portion of each hand insertion window (33) formed in an outside portion of a newborn infant container (16) of an incubator (11). A holding portion (45) is formed on one side portion of the hand insertion door board (36) in the lateral direction. A bracket (52) which pivotally supports a support shaft (58) having a vertical axis is attached to the holding portion (45). A latch lever (63) is pivotally supported by the support shaft (58) of the bracket (52). A press lever (75) which releases latching operation of the latch lever (63) is pivotally attached by using the support shaft (58) of the bracket (52). When the press lever (75) is pressed against the biasing force of a compression coil spring (80), the press lever (75) presses projecting pieces (67) of the latch lever (63) to make the latch lever (63) pivot about the support shaft (58) to the release position. This arrangement provides an incubator which does not easily affect the physical condition of a newborn infant in spite of being capable of easily opening hand insertion windows by manipulation with a body part such as the elbow other than the hands, and allows to use common latch mechanisms for the hand insertion doors in different orientations.

    • In an incubator (11) according to the present invention, a single incubator (11) can be used in any state of four types of devices and thus obviates the need for having many types of devices. A canopy (27) is lowered and raised.
