    • A dispensing cartridge (20) in accordance with the present invention is relatively simple in configuration while minimizing leakage of the fluid (28) and eliminating problems associated with chemical attack of the O-ring (112) by the fluid (28) in the dispensing cylinder (22). The air vent (41) is configured as a tortuous path, which in a pre-staged position allows air to freely escape along the spiral path along the circumference of the plug (26). As the piston (24) contacts the fluid (28), the forward motion of piston (24) is resisted by the high backpressure created by the small effective diameter and relatively long length of the spiral path. Once the piston (24) contacts the fluid (28), the spiral plug (26) is pushed into the piston (24) closing the spiral path. By controlling the fluid flow, the amount of fluid backflow through the piston (24) is minimized if not eliminated, thus eliminating the need for an annular overflow chamber. To improve the sealing of the piston (24) within the dispensing cartridge (20), the piston (24) may be provided with one or more radially extending sealing lips (64, 66) that can be used in lieu of or in conjunction with an O-ring (112).

A product dispensing cartridge is attached to the front of the dispenser (10) via a cartridge holding mechanism. As the trigger (22) is depressed, the pawl drive mechanism (20) engages and advances a plunger (40) into the product container, contacting and advancing a piston within the cartridge which in turn advances and expels product from a cartridge dispensing outlet. At the completion of the stroke, the trigger (22) is released and the drive mechanism (20) disengages the plunger (40), the disengagement interaction between the drive mechanism (20) and the plunger (40) causing the latter to move rearwards. A floating gripper (52), disposed on the plunger, limits the amount of this rearward movement, the effect of which is to decompress the product cartridge and thus prevent drooling after the completion of dispensation.

    • A dual fluid cartridge (20) for storing and dispensing fluids in unequal ratios is disclosed. The dual fluid cartridge (20) disclosed defines two fluid chambers (42,44) for a fluid to be held in greater amount and defines another fluid chamber (40) for a fluid to be held in lesser amount. The two fluid chambers (42,44) holding the fluid of greater amount are in fluid communication with one another through a delivery channel (46). Because of this arrangement, the dual fluid cartridge (20) is very suitable and highly effective in situations where a dual fluid cartridge is needed to store and dispense fluids of unequal ratios ( e.g. a 10:1 ratio, a 9:1 ratio, an 8:1 ratio, a 7:1 ratio etc.). With such an arrangement, the amount of space wasted in the cartridge is minimized, which maximizes the amount of fluids that can be stored in the cartridge. As a result, the total final product that can be dispensed from the dual fluid cartridge is also maximized.
