摘要： Linked lists of spryte control blocks are prepared in memory (108) and transversed by a spryte rendering engine. Each spryte control block (106) controls the rendering of a respective spryte into the display buffer, and contains such information as a pointer to source data for the corresponding spryte, positional an incrementing specifications for a destination quadrilateral, a control word for manipulations to be performed on the spryte image source data, and an indication of which of several available formats the spryte image source data is packed in. Once the linked list is prepared, the spryte rendering engine (106) can be called by writing certain values into specific memory-mapped hardware registers, and then writing dummy data to an address recognized by the hardware as a command to initiate the spryte rendering operation (106).

The data for the entire program is too large to be completely loaded into memory at one time; therefore, the data is divided into a set of overlapping zones (A, B, C, D). Each zone (A, B, C, D) is divided into subzones (AA, BB, CC, DD, AB, AC, AD). Two overlapping zones overlap because they both share a common (or overlapping) subzone. When a user moves from a first zone (D) to a second zone (A), the user will first move into the overlapping subzone (AD) prior to moving into the second zone (A). While the user is in the overlapping subzone (AD), data for the second zone (A) is loaded into memory. Thus, when the user leaves the overlapping zone (AD) and enters the second zone (A), data for the second zone (A) is presented in a continuous fashion.

摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for real time decompression and post-decompress manipulation of compressed full motion video. A decompressed play-back signal (132) is supplied to a real-time video processing system (160) by way of an adaptor (140) for post-decompress manipulation. The post-decompress manipulations include real-time, interactive geometry transformations and color remappings. The adaptor (140) includes a range expansion module for eliminating dead space such as found in CCIR-601 outputs. The adaptor (140) further includes a resampling module for programmably converting the pixels-per-line format of the decompressed play-back signal. The adaptor (140) additionally includes a clip-and-dither module for altering the bits-per-pixel format of the adaptor output signal and for applying a programmably-defined dither to the adaptor output signal.
