    • An inverted tooth chain drive system(200) includes a sprocket(250) supported for rotation about an axis of rotation(x) and including a plurality of teeth(260, 280) defined relative to respective tooth centers(TC). The tooth centers(TC) are spaced evenly in a circumferential arrangement about the axis of rotation, and each of the plurality of teeth(260, 280) includes an engaging flank(262, 282). An inverted tooth chain(210) is engaged with the sprocket(250) and includes a plurality of rows of links(230a, 230b, 230c) each structured for inside flank engagement with the sprocket(250), with leading inside flanks(235) of each row of links projecting outwardly relative to the trailing outside flanks(236) of a preceding row of links. The leading inside flanks(235) of each row are positioned to make initial meshing contact with the engaging flank(262, 282) of one of the sprocket teeth(260, 280). At least some of the teeth are standard teeth(260) and other ones of the teeth are flank-relieved teeth(280). The engaging flanks(282) of the flank-relieved teeth(280) are negatively offset relative to their respective tooth centers(TC) as compared to said engaging flanks(262) of said standard teeth(260) relative to their respective tooth centers(TC). The root surfaces(285) leading the flank-relieved teeth(282) are raised relative to the root surfaces(265) leading the standard teeth(260) and are also inclined.

    • A meta-document (10) includes an object conveying document information (12), processing information (14) pertaining to processing of the meta-document and metadata (16) for indexing and retrieving the processing information. The processing information (14) is recorded on the meta-document (10) each time the meta-document (10) is processed in some manner. Each time processing information is recorded on the document, appropriate metadata for indexing and retrieving the processing information is also stored on the meta-document. Processing may include any transformation of the document information or the meta-document itself. Creation and recording of the processing information (14) and associated metadata (16) on the meta-document may be accomplished externally by the particular source or environment to which the meta-document may be residing. Alternatively, each meta-document may include a tool (18) (e.g., a software program or macro) embedded on the object. Whenever the meta-document is accessed or processed, the embedded tool creates the appropriate processing information and associated metadata. Whenever the meta-document is sent/distributed by any means, its document processing information part is parsed and used to populate the local environment.

    • A decentralized network system provides for the distribution and collection of information (or messages) without the constraints of a large physical infrastructure. A decentralized network system includes a plurality of first nodes, each first node having a memory for storing messages, a processor for processing messages in accordance with a predetermined relationship and a communications port for transmitting and receiving messages. The first nodes are attached to some physical device or to a location. A plurality of mobile second nodes is also provided. Each second node includes a memory for storing messages, a processor for creating messages in response to user input and for processing messages in accordance with a predetermined relationship and a communications port for transmitting and receiving messages. Preferably, each second node is a personal digital assistant (PDA). The mobile second nodes are moved by users, who provide the means for transmitting messages from one first node to another first node. Transmission of a message from one node to another node is accomplished through a sequence of message exchanges between pairs of first nodes and second nodes.
