    • A blank for forming a box, the blank comprising a plurality of co-operating panels with a plurality of fold lines between the panels, an ear on a first panel, and a receiving slot on a second panel. The panels are foldable relative to one another along the fold lines to form a closed box, and the slot is co-operatively aligned with the ear for insertion of the ear through the slot into the box interior upon closing of the box. The ear is movable from an engagement configuration prior to insertion, to an insertion configuration upon insertion of the ear into the slot, to a normally engagement configuration when the ear is fully inserted into the slot. The ear is biased into the engagement configuration so that after insertion of the ear into the slot the ear engages with the box interior to prevent withdrawal of the ear through the slot from the box interior, and thereby locks the box closed.

    • A leading outer skin length 10 is led along a flat bed with the outer surface lowermost. The first outer skin length has a leading edge 11 and a trailing edge 12. Marks 13 are provided on the uppermost face of the skin length 10. A following skin length 15 with a leading edge 16 is led along the flat bed with the outer surface of the skin lowermost. The trailing edge 12 of the skin length 10 is detected by a second laser sensor 21 to provide a second control signal. A tape applicator is triggered automatically by a controller, only on receipt of the first and second control signals from the laser sensors 20, 21. At a cutting station, the leading edge 16 of the skin length 15 is detected by a first laser sensor 24 to provide a first control signal. The trailing edge 12 of the skin length 10 is detected by a second laser sensor 25 to provide a second control signal. A cutting apparatus is triggered automatically by a controller, only on receipt of the first and second control signals from the laser sensors 24, 25. At a separating station, the leading edge 16 of the skin length 15 is detected by a first laser sensor 27 to provide a first control signal. The trailing edge 12 of the skin length 10 is detected by a second laser sensor 28 to provide a second control signal. A separating apparatus is triggered automatically by a controller, only on receipt of the first and second control signals from the laser sensors 27, 28.
