    • A hydropneumatic filament-wound pressure vessel is disclosed. The vessel has first and second cup-shaped tank liners having circular open mouths which are provided with a seal and diaphragm assembly. The seal assembly includes a pocket formed by an inner wall and shelf associated with the first liner and a ledge associated with the second liner. The shelf, ledge and cylindrical wall cooperate with an inner surface of the second liner to provide an O-ring pocket. An O-ring is provided in the pocket and the O-ring defines the periphery of a flexible diaphragm which divides the interior of the liners into separate pressure chambers. A continuous filament is wound over the surface of the liners in an isotensoid pattern. Each liner has a geodesic dome surface extending between a diameter of the liner and a polar opening. The dome surface is defined by oppositely curving surfaces of revolution of a meridia joined by an inflection point. The first surface of revolution curves from the liner diameter to a first point just unto but not at said inflection point. The second surface of revolution curves from the polar opening to a second point just unto but not at said inflection point in a direction opposite the curvature of the first surface of revolution. The first and second surfaces are joined, and the inflection point is traversed by a straight line third surface of revolution closely approximating geodesic curvature through the inflection point.

    • A filament-wound pressure vessel having a pressure vessel liner (10) and a continuous filament polar (14) wound over the surface of the liner (10) in an isotensoid pattern. The liner (10) has a geodesic dome surface (16, 18) extending between a diameter (24) of the liner (10) and a polar opening (12). The dome surface (16, 18) is defined by oppositely curving surfaces of revolution (22, 30) of a meridia joined by an inflection point (32, X 2 ). The first surface of revolution (22) curves from the liner diameter (24) to a first point (Y 2 ) just unto but not at said inflection point (X 2 ). The second surface of revolution (30) curves from the polar opening (12) to a second point (Y 3 ) just unto but not at said inflection point (Y 2 ) in a direction opposite the curvature of the first surface of revolution (22). The first and second surfaces (22, 30) are joined, and the inflection point (X 2 ) is traversed by a straight line third surface of revolution (42) closely approximating geodesic curvature through the inflection point (X 2 ).

    • A cutting tool (10) for removing members downhole from a well bore and adapted to be inserted within a well from the upper end (12) of the casing (14). The cutting tool (10) includes a plurality of elongate blades (32) on the cylindrical body (18) of the cutting tool (10). Cutting elements (42) of a predetermined size and shape are arranged in a symmetrical predetermined pattern on each blade (32) in side-by-side relation in a plurality of predetermined transversely extending rows and a plurality of predetermined generally vertically extending columns. The cutting elements (42) in adjacent transverse rows for each blade (32) are staggered and have different concentric cutting paths. The cutting elements (42E) in corresponding transverse rows on adjacent blades (32A, 32B) are staggered and have different concentric cutting paths. The blades (32A, 32B) of the embodiment of Figures 7-13 have a separate recess (50) on the leading face (34A) for each individual cutting element (42E) for precisely positioning the cutting element (42E). Each cutting element (42E) has a groove (42K) for receiving and directing forwardly the extending end of a metal shaving (S) to facilitate breaking thereof from the casing (14).
Further disclosed is a method for maufacturing the cutting tool by the steps of- making a separate mark (recess 50) on the blade of the tool (32) for each cutting element (42); preassambling the cutting elements in a template; placing the template on the blade (32) of the tool; brazing the cutting elements (42) to the blade (32).
