摘要： A frame over which woven wire mesh is to be stretched and secured to form a sieving screen and which can be used to screen solids from drilling mud recovered from down-hole when drilling for oil or gas. The frame is a rectilinear moulded plastics frame having edge regions by which it is secured in place in a shaker. Within the frame is a plurality of rectilinear windows formed by an orthogonal array of intersecting ribs also of moulded plastics material. Some of the ribs are internally reinforced by rigid metal members which extend orthogonally between hollow box-section members which define a sub-frame for reinforcing the four edge regions of the frame. The ends of the sub-frame members are joined at the four corners of the sub-frame. In this way not are only the edge regions of the frame reinforced internally but so also are some of the orthogonally intersecting ribs, so as thereby to produce a rigid frame for the screen. The internal reinforcement for those ribs which are to be reinforced may comprise hollow box-section metal members which may be of similar cross section to that of the sub-frame members, or the internal reinforcement for those ribs which are to be reinforced comprises metal I-beam cross section members, which typically have the same height as the height of the box-section members forming the sub frame.

摘要： A method is described for making a reinforcing wire frame for embedding in a moulded polymer support frame (10) over which woven wire cloth (158,159) is to be stretched and secured to form a sifting screen. The method involves locating lengths of cut wire (50) substantially equally spaced apart in a jig to form a first array. A second array of lengths of cut wire (56,60) is located over the first array with the lengths of wire in the second array being substantially at right angles to those of the first array. The lengths of wire in the first and second arrays are resistance welded at points of mutual intersection so as to form a first substantially rectilinear matrix. Lengths of cut wire (48) are located in a jig to form a third array, in which the lengths are also substantially equally spaced apart, and a fourth array of lengths of cut wire (54,58,62,64) is arranged over the third array with the lengths of the fourth array substantially at right angles to the lengths of wire of the third array, and the wires of the third and fourth arrays are also resistance welded at points of mutual intersection to form a second substantially rectilinear matrix. Protruding lengths of wire on at least two sides of the four sides of one of the rectilinear matrices are bent using a press so as to bend each protruding length first in a generally upward sense and then at a point nearer its end in a generally downward sense so that an end region of each protruding length extends parallel to a plane of the matrix but is displaced therefrom. Thereafter the displaced ends of the protruding lengths of wire of one matrix are resistance welded to protruding lengths of wire of the other matrix, to form the frame.

摘要： A method of repairing or refurbishing a filter screen is described. The type of screen is defined in the specification. The repair or refurbishment is effected by stripping worn or damaged wirecloth from the surface of the frame (10) and placing fresh cloth (158,159) over the frame (10) and tensioning it as appropriate. Heat is then applied so as to soften surfaces of the frame (10) over which wirecloth (158,159) is stretched, so that the latter can penetrate softened plastics material in the surfaces and become embedded therein. The frame (10) and its associated fresh cloth (158,159) is allowed to cool, after which the applied tensioning is removed. Exposed edges of the wirecloth (158,159) can be trimmed back to the surrounding flange. Plastics material may be applied to the surface of the frame (10) which is to receive the new wirecloth (158,159), before the latter is fitted, to provide additional plastics material for bonding the wirecloth to the frame. Alternatively the stripped frame (10) may be inserted in a mould, and fresh polymer material is injected into the mould so as to reform ridges (30,32) on the surfaces of the frame (10) similar to those which existed when the frame (10) was first manufactured, before the wirecloth is applied thereto.
