摘要： An integrated self-checkout system and method incorporates access control (6), electronic article surveillance (EAS), and radio frequency identification (RFID) subsystems, and directs advertisements (22) and pricing to a specific individual. The in-store customer uses either a cell phone or an interactive personal digital assistant (PDA) (8) to display prices and/or advertisements selected according to buying habits which are obtained by tracking (14) the customer in the store and recording selected parameters such as the customer's track through the store, time spent in various store location, items selected (18), and items purchased (20). A database (2) of customer habits is input to a decision program (4) that determines the content of advertisements and pricing of various items. Advertising and pricing can also be communicated to the customer through shelf price displays (10) and fixed displays (12) strategically positioned in the store. RFID/bar code scanners are used to identify the items selected, and EAS functions can be deactivated (24) for the specific purchased items.

摘要： A flexible multimedia information analysis apparatus stores a database (50) which includes both audio (54) and video (52) information. Also stored are a plurality of content analysis algorithms for analyzing the audio information in the database. A user can manipulate a mouse to select one of the analysis algorithms. The selected algorithm is used to analyze audio information in the database or on a 'live' basis as the audio information is received. Audio analysis algorithms can be applied in tandem with moving image content analysis algorithms applied to stored video data or live input video streams.

摘要： Methods of operation for data reader and security tag deactivation system (10) whereby a data reader is equipped with EAS deactivation coils/modules (14) disposed in the vicinity of the read volume or generally proximate thereto. System (10) is operable to permit reading of the ID tag (5) on an item, and upon a successful read, the deactivation unit (12) is operable to (1) sense presence of an EAS tag (5); (2) if presence of EAS tag (5) is sensed, energize the deactivation coil/module (14) to deactivate the EAS tag (5); (3) sense if EAS tag (5) is deactivated. If EAS tag (5) is sensed to have been deactivated, the system signals and next item is scanned. Also, it may be operable to urge the operator to return an item to the read volume to enhance EAS tag deactivation, one method being by delaying good read acknowledgment until determining that the EAS tag (5) which may have been previously detected has subsequently been deactivated.

摘要： An electronic key capable of reinitializing or resetting a security disabled electronic article surveillance (EAS) device is provided. The electronic key can be a secure, portable, and battery powered for initializing a secured EAS system's security protocol to factory default state, or to another preselected state. The key has its own set of security protocols to prevent unauthorized use and can easily be reprogrammed for a wide variety of other functions including, but not limited to, firmware upgrading, diagnostic testing, and the like. The key can be connected to the programming port of an EAS device and perform a preset reprogramming operation, resetting activated security features. The key could be purchased for customer use, and would be secured by pre-selecting the total number of uses, such as one use. The one-time use would begin once the key is activated. Activation of the key is also uniquely controlled to prevent its misuse. In one embodiment, the electronic key must detect the interrogation field of a properly functioning EAS exit system prior to becoming enabled. The allowed usage can be limited by time, the number of units reprogrammed, or a combination of both. Once the key has been activated for its pre-selected number of uses and shuts off, only qualified service personnel can reset the electronic key function for further uses.

The coil driving circuit repetitively energizes the deactivation coil array according to a predetermined timing to generate a magnetic field for deactivating the EAS marker.
