摘要： A method of producing a heat-recoverable plastic article such as a tube (1) by deforming the article from a heat-stable configuration (1a) to a heat-unstable configuration (1b). The heat-unstable configuration will return to the heat-stable configuration when the article is heated to above the heat recovery temperature. The article is heated such that the article is at a temperature no lower than the heat recovery temperature during the deforming step by lossy particles (2) dispersed in the article or in a tool (4) used in the deforming step. The lossy particles allow auto-regulated heating of the article since the particles cannot be heated beyond their Curie transition temperature when subjected to an alternating magnetic field. These particles are preferably ferrites. Alternatively, the tool can include a braided mesh tubing (12) of a ferromagnetic alloy wire. The article is cooled in the heat-unstable configuration to a temperature below the heat recovery temperature while preventing the article from returning to the heat-stable configuration. The tool can be a mandrel (8), expandable tube (10) or caterpillar (4).

摘要： This invention provides a system for providing heat to a substrate (7) in an alternating magnetic field using lossy heating particles. This invention in particular discloses an article which is a combination of a base material (5) and lossy heating particles (6) capable of producing the desirerd heat and capable of being self-regulating at a preselected Curie temperature when subjected to an alternating magnetic field produced by induction coil (32). The article of this invention is adapted to be placed on a substrate (7) in order to heat the substrate in an alternating magnetic field and is adapted to provide the removal of the particles from the substrate after the heating is completed. Preferred materials for the article of this invention are gel materials having a cone penetration of at least about 50 (10-1 mm) and at least about 100 % elongation. Preferred magnetic particles for use in this invention include the combination of lossy heating particles, alone or in combination with non-lossy particles, for maintaining the magnetic circuit coupling while the lossy heating particles are at the Curie temperature.

摘要： A flexible circuit which may be a strap or a board or the like has a plurality of conductors exposed on one surface in a predetermined array and a heater disposed on the opposed surface so as to heat the exposed conductors. The exposed conductors may have solder or the heat activated conductive bonding material applied thereto so that the flexible circuit may be directly connected to a component, a printed circuit board, a connector or the like. If a reusable bonding material, such as solder, is employed the heater may be utilized to both connect and disconnect the flexible circuit.
