    • A thermoplastic unitary molded seal comprises a tab, a socket depending from the tab, a pair of links extending from the tab and a locking member secured to the other end of the links. A tether is secured at one end to the locking member adjacent to one of the links and at another end adjacent to the other of the links. The tether is attached at one of its ends by a reduced cross section to permit the tether to be severed from the locking member. The locking member comprises a pair of resiliently secured tangs attached to a cross-member in which there are a pair of recesses and a transverse hole. The recesses and hole receive the tether therethrough. The recesses and hole are inserted within the cavity of the socket with the tether free end inserted so as to lock the tether within the recesses and hole. The tether includes at least a pair of projections, one projecting from the tether on each side of the locking member so that when the tether is locked to the locking member in the socket the tether cannot be removed. The tangs include rearward facing projections which engage mating recesses in the socket. In a further embodiment, the socket has apertures at the bottom region thereof for receiving the tang tips for providing visual evidence of tampering, the tangs displacing in the socket while locked. In a still further embodiment, a pair of tangs are attached to a strap in tandem fashion. The socket member includes a pair of sockets receiving a separate one of the tandem secured tangs so that the seal may be reused.

    • A thermoplastic molded socket (142) and locking device including two tandemly secured locking devices (120, 121) are secured together at respective opposite ends of a strap (124). The socket (142) has two locking cavities (144, 146) each having a separate locking device receiving opening (144, 146) for receiving a respective different one of the locking devices (120, 121). The free end-most locking device (121) and one of the device receiving openings (146) have complementary dimensions, e.g., a transverse width greater than that of the other locking device (120) and device receiving opening (144), so that the end most locking device (121) can be inserted into only the one larger receiving opening (146). A unique reference number (160, 166) is assigned each seal (110) and to each cavity (144, 146) so that the seal and cavity reference numbers (160, 166) together form a unique number to preclude tampering. The locking devices (120, 121) each comprise a locking member (131, 130) and pair of locking tangs (129, 128), each tang including a rearward facing projection (153) which engages a corresponding recess (100') in the mating locking member cavity. In a further embodiment, the socket (142) has apertures (96', 98') for receiving the tang tips (137) for providing visual evidence of tampering, the tangs displacing in the socket cavities (144, 146) while locked.

    • A device for visually indicating an attempt to tamper with or defeat a locking seal, the locking seal being of the type having a lock body containing a passageway, a bolt having an end which is inserted and received in the passageway, and means within the lock body for preventing removal of the inserted bolt end therefrom: wherein the device comprises:
      a frangible, brittle shroud adapted to surround the lock body, the shroud cracking, chipping or fracturing upon the application thereto of low force during an attempt to tamper with or defeat the seal by disassociating the lock body from the bolt, and
      a frangible, brittle flange integral with the shroud and adapted to surround the bolt at the point of entry of its end into the passageway, the flange cracking, chipping or fracturing upon the application of low force either exteriority thereto or between the flange and the bolt either, during an attempt to tamper with or defeat the seal by removing the bolt from the lock body or inserting a removal-preventing-means-defeating object into the passageway;
      cracking, chipping or fracturing of the shroud or the flange providing a visual indication of an attempt to tamper with or defeat the seal.

    • A tamper evident security seal includes a locking unit (109 and a bolt with a groove at its shank locking portion, the groove for receiving a resilient locking ring attached to a lock body in a locking unit receiving the bolt in a locked state. The locking unit includes two housing portions (12,14) one of which has a top wall (18), a bottom wall (16)and a first upstanding segment of a circular cylinder side wall (20) interconnected thereto may be of any color. The top wall (18) has an aperture (28) for receiving the bolt therethrough. A mating second housing portion has a second segment of a circular cylinder side wall (32), preferably white having ID indicia thereon, forms a circular cylindrical housing with the first housing portion and is captured between the top and bottom walls. A lock body first element is plastic and molded one piece with the second housing portion. A lock body second steel element mates with the first element forming a lock body with an annular channel in which the ring is positioned. The channel and ring generally form a conventional bolt locking arrangement. A plastic transparent cover, enclosing the two housing portions (12.14), is bonded to the bottom wall (16). A collar on the top wall has two slots for receiving mating anti-spin tabs on the bolt shank.

    • An electronics circuit first portion is entirely within an electronics module housing, sensing and transmitting a tamper condition of a normally locked bolt. The bolt comprises a second portion of the electronics circuit. The seal electronics circuit first portion comprises a seal monitoring, tracking and communications system. The bolt passes through the module housing and is secured with a locking device external the module such that the module is reusable when the bolt is severed. The bolt and module housing include a cooperative contamination sealing arrangement for sealing the bolt to the housing. The electronics circuit first portion includes RFID tamper detection circuitry, GPS, Wi Fi and cell phone communication and tracking technologies. The cell phone technology tracks the seal using cell phone towers and Wi Fi access points and communicates the seal tracked position and seal status data to a cell phone communications center.
