In one embodiment, the invention can be a tag comprising a substrate (100) having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface; an electronic article surveillance (EAS) element (200) comprising an EAS antenna, the EAS antenna on the first surface of the substrate; and a radio frequency identification (RFID) element, the RFID element comprising: a far field antenna (310) on the second surface of the substrate, the far field antenna comprising a first pole portion (320), a second pole portion (330), and a connecting portion (340) connecting the first pole portion and the second pole portion; a near field loop antenna (350) on the second surface of the substrate, and an integrated circuit (390) operably coupled to the near field loop antenna; wherein the far field antenna, the near field loop antenna, and the EAS element are located on the substrate so as to be physically isolated from one another.

    • In one embodiment, the invention can be an apparatus for a point of sale (POS) lane gate, the apparatus including a frame; a translation mechanism coupled to the frame and configured to transition the frame between an extended position and an unextended position, wherein in the extended position the frame extends into the POS lane and obstructs a person's passage through the POS lane, and in the unextended position the frame does not obstruct a person's passage through the POS lane; and an EAS antenna coupled to the frame; wherein when the frame is in the unextended position, the EAS antenna is in an active state such that the EAS antenna generates an EAS field in the POS lane; and wherein when the frame is transitioned from the unextended position to the extended position, the EAS antenna transitions to an inactive state.

    • A magnetic decoupling unit (12) that is capable of magnetically releasing several types of magnetically releasable antitheft devices may include a magnet assembly (28). The magnet assembly (28) may be placed inside a magnet housing (20) with a cover (22) that has an aperture (24) and insert (26) for receiving portions of a magnetically releasable antitheft device. The magnet assembly (28) may include a first magnet (E) with a vertical magnetic orientation which is surrounded by adjacent magnets (B2, D, F1, F2) with magnetic orientations that are orthogonal to the vertical magnetic orientation. Additionally, the magnet assembly (28) includes one or more additional magnets (B1, C) oriented in the vertical and orthogonal directions. The resulting magnet assembly (28) may be capable of magnetically releasing single clutch, double clutch, and electronic media type antitheft devices.
