摘要： The invention relates to a method of preparing a thermoplastic vulcanizate comprising: a) melt processing a blend of thermoplastic polymer and vulcanizable elastomer in a multi-screw extruder having at least three intermeshing screws, wherein said screws have 3-170 mixing zones, and said extruder having a L/D ratio of 15-100, and a screw profile that has 3 to 17 meshes per L/D; b) adding at least one curing agent to the melt-processed blend of a) in at least one location in the first 46% of the length of said extruder, or adding at least one curing agent to the melt-processed blend of a) in a second extruder, so as to initiate curing of the blend: and, curing at least partially said elastomer by reactive melt processing. Improved processing, reaction kinetics and efficiencies are achieved, as well as thermoplastic vulcanizate products having decreased weight gain when placed in mineral oils.

In at least one exemplary embodiment, the compositions include a dispersed at least partially vulcanized rubber component; a thermoplastic component; and process oil; wherein the weight ratio of the thermoplastic component to the rubber component ranges from 80:20 to 15:85; and the thermoplastic component comprises more than 80 wt% of a polypropylene (preferably a random propylene copolymer) having a melting point less than about 105 °C. The compositions can be used in molded products, consumer goods and the like.

摘要： A TPV composition having improved fabricability and surface appearance is achieved by a process for preparing a thermoplastic vulcanizate composition having a dispersed, cross-linked rubber phase in a continuous thermoplastic polypropylene phase comprising: a) providing into melt processing equipment at least the following components; i) at least one thermoplastic polypropylene homopolymer or copolymer having a melt temperature greater than 120°C; ii) 6-12 wt.%, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic vulcanizate composition, at least one propylene copolymer having from 7 to 30 wt.% ethylene, based upon the weight of the random propylene copolymer, and a melting point less than 120°C; iii) at least one cross-linkable rubber, where, if including an ethylene copolymer rubber, said copolymer rubber having equal to or more than 40 wt.% the total copolymer rubber weight; b) melt processing the blend of i), ii), and iii) of a); c) dynamically vulcanizing the cross-linkable rubber iii) in the presence of the thermoplastic i) and random copolymer ii); and d) removing a thermoplastic vulcanizate product of c) from the melt processing equipment, wherein the dispersed, cross-linked rubber phase of the product thermoplastic vulcanizate d) consists of particles having an effective diameter not greater than 2 millimicrons.
