    • A valved coupling for establishing fluid connection between two separate but couplable elements (A, B) has minimum included volume between the parts that meet together to establish that connection. This is achieved by forming the faces (4, 24) of obturators (2, 14) which meet face-to-face upon coupling to be exactly the same as each other in profile extent and boundary shape, the same being true of the marginal faces (9, 22) around the obturators which belong to valve members (1, 15) coacting with the latter, the obturators and valve members being relatively movable. Furthermore, each transition from obturator face to marginal face is smooth (collinear). Coupling means (10, 21) ensure that the elements come together with the obturators and valve members in register, respectively.

    • A hydraulically damped mounting device has two anchor points (2,3) joined by a resilient spring (9). The resilient spring (9) and a partition (6) define a working chamber (13) for liquid, the working chamber being in communication with a compensation chamber (14) via a passage (15). The compensation chamber (14) is bounded by flexible bellows (5). A flexible diaphragm (16) defines, together with the partition (6), a gas pocket (18). Relative movement of the anchor points (2,3) causes a change in pressure in the working chamber (13). High frequency vibrations are absorbed by movement of the diaphragm (16) with little resistance to movement. Low frequency vibrations cause liquid movement through the passage (15) with a strong damping effect. This affect may be controlled by suitable selection of the length and diameter of the passage (15). Preferably, a bleed orifice (38) extends from the gas pocket (18) to compensate for thermal changes in the volume of the pocket (18).

    • An isolation pad for absorbing vibration transmitted from a loudspeaker to a support for that loudspeaker has a mat (1) which acts as an acoustic mass for the support and hollow domes (2) projecting from the mat (1) on which the loudspeaker rests. The domes (2) act as spring elements with non-linear characteristics which isolate the loudspeaker from the support. The mat (1) is made of a high density elastomer which conforms to the surface of the support on which it rests and the domes (2) may be made of the same material or a different material. In the latter case, the domes (8) may be made interchangeable with other domes of different spring characteristics, to suit the loudspeakter used. A flock coating is applied to the upper surface of the mat to dissipate air vibrations between the mat (1) and the loudspeaker.
