    • A video coder determines a candidate for inclusion in a candidate list for a current prediction unit (PU). The candidate is based on motion parameters of a plurality of sub-PUs of the current PU. If a reference block corresponding to a sub-PU is not coded using motion compensated prediction, the video coder sets the motion parameters of the sub-PU to default motion parameters. For each respective sub-PU from the plurality of sub-PUs, if a reference block for the respective sub-PU is not coded using motion compensated prediction, the motion parameters of the respective sub-PU are not set in response to a subsequent determination that a reference block for any later sub-PU in an order is coded using motion compensated prediction.

    • An example video coding device is configured to determine a depth value associated with a block of video data included in a dependent depth view, based on one or more neighboring pixels positioned adjacent to the block of video data in the dependent depth view, and generate a disparity vector associated with the block of video data, based at least in part on the determined depth value associated with the block of video data. The video coding device may further be configured to use the disparity vector to generate an inter-view disparity motion vector candidate (IDMVC), generate an inter-view predicted motion vector candidate (IPMVC) associated with the block of video data based on a corresponding block of video data in a base view, and determine whether to add any of the IDMVC and the IPMVC to a merge candidate list associated with the block of video data.

    • A method and apparatus for three-dimensional and multi-view video coding are disclosed, where the motion vector (MV) or disparity vector (DV) candidate list construction process for a block depends on whether the target reference picture corresponds to an inter-view reference picture or whether the inter-view candidate refers to an inter-view reference picture. In one embodiment, an MV or DV candidate list for a block coded in Merge mode is constructed, and an inter-view candidate in the MV or DV candidate list is set lower than the first candidate position if the inter-view candidate refers to an inter-view reference picture. In another embodiment, an MV or DV candidate list for a block coded in advanced motion vector prediction mode is constructed, and an inter-view candidate is set lower than the first candidate position if the inter-view candidate refers to an inter-view reference picture.
