摘要： A control system for controlling the work output delivered to a floor surface by a work tool (18) associated with a floor maintenance machine (10), such as a burnisher, is provided. In one embodiment, a voltage regulator regulates the voltage provided to the motor assembly (16) that drives the work tool. A current sensor (50) monitors the motor current drawn by the motor assembly and provides a signal representative thereof to a controller (60). The controller also receives as an input a work selector signal representative of a desired level of work output. Based on the work selector signal and the sensed motor current, the controller provides a control signal to an actuator (20). In response to the control signal, the actuator raises or lowers the work tool (18) relative to the floor (24) as need to control the work output delivered to the floor. In another embodiment, the voltage regulator is omitted, and the controller is configured to generate the control signal based on the product of the motor current and the voltage provided to the motor assembly.

The control system includes a current level sensor (38) for determining an operational current level of the linear actuator and a controller for generating a drive signal (42) and a force request signal (44) representative of a desired current level of the linear actuator. The drive signal remains constant during a predetermined time interval of the controller. The control system further includes a current limiting component (34) for receiving the force request signal, the current level of the linear actuator and the drive signal. The current limiting component minimizes the current level of the electric motor in response to a comparison between the force request signal and the desired current level within a time interval substantially smaller than the predetermined time interval of the controller.

摘要： A wiper assembly (90) for surface maintenance vehicles (20) has a non-destructive failure mode when impacting stationary objects, or otherwise becoming subject to instantaneous or rapidly increasing resistance to forward movement, due to an improved mechanical coupling. Portions (66) of each improved mechanical coupling may either become fully disconnected if the stress force reaches a threshold force value or recoils to the original mounting location after absorbing forces that are less that the threshold force value. The threshold value force is designed to avoid damage to the wiper assembly (90), the articulated mounting member (40)(if any), and the maintenance vehicle (20) itself. The improved mechanical coupling utilizes a resilient, deformable member (66) that adds a modicum of additional travel in response to stress forces imparted to a wiper assembly (90). Accordingly, the teaching of the present invention may be applied to previously manufactured surface maintenance equipment and vehicles in the form of retrofitted mechanical couplings, requiring modest engineering and re-installation efforts.

摘要： A process for applying a coating to a floor surface and curing that coating after application includes the steps of first spreading a photochemically curable liquid coating in a thickness of from about .003 to about .006 inches on a floor surface. After the coating has been applied, it is exposed to ultraviolet radiation at a power level of about 40 watts per inch of width of coating being cured and at two different sequentially applied wavelengths. This cures the liquid coating instantly to a durable solid coating. The first applied ultraviolet radiation may have the wavelength of about 365 nm and the second applied ultraviolet radiation may have a wavelength of about 254 nm. The ultraviolet radiation is provided by an array of UV lights on a mobile, self-powered vehicle which moves over the floor coating at a speed in the range of 20 to 40 feet per minute.

摘要： A sweeping machine (10) has a wheel (12,14) supported body and a rotatable brush (16) mounted transversely of the direction of machine movement. There is a debris hopper (20) adjacent the brush and a dust collection chamber (24) on the body. A vacuum fan (30) draws dust laden air from the area about the brush (16), through the debris hopper (20), and into the dust collection chamber (24). The improvement comprises a dust control side skirt assembly mounted on each side of the body generally in alignment with the brush (16). Each such assembly includes a flexible inner skirt (54) and a flexible outer skirt (52) spaced from the inner skirt. A flexible spacer (60,62) extends between and is attached to the inner and outer skirts, with the spacer and skirts defining a cavity (70) which has an air opening (72) at a lower portion of the side skirt assembly. The air opening is formed by a discontinuity in the spacer. There is an opening (74) in the inner skirt connecting the cavity (70) with the area about the brush whereby the vacuum fan (30) creates an airflow path through the air opening (72), into the cavity (70), through the inner skirt opening (74) and into the debris hopper and dust collection chamber.
