    • The present invention provides an information storage and retrieval device in which the generation of excess heat is suppressed by a configuration by which outputs from an electrical power control circuit to a drive means are controlled by turning switching elements on and off.
An information storage and retrieval device comprising a card conveyor mount 18 for supporting and conveying a card-type information storage medium; a drive means having a linear motor, for reciprocatingly driving the card conveyor mount 18; an electrical power control circuit having switching elements 6 to 11, for providing power to the linear motor; speed detection means 20 and 1 for detecting the speed at which the card conveyor mount is moving; a speed command means 1 for calculating an indicated speed corresponding to an output from the speed detection means, shaping a speed command therefrom, and sending the command to the electrical power control circuit; and an optical head for irradiating a laser beam onto the information storage medium; whereby information is written to the information storage medium by the optical head irradiating the laser beam onto the information storage medium, and information is read therefrom by detecting laser light reflected from the information storage medium; the information storage and retrieval device further comprising a comparison means having a pair of comparators 4 and 5 having identical threshold values of different polarities, for comparing the speed command with each of the threshold values and shaping a pair of outputs that are on during the period that the command exceeds the threshold values; wherein powering currents of the linear motor are controlled and thus drive control of the card conveyor mount is enabled by controlling switching elements in the electrical power control circuit to turn on and off in accordance with the outputs from the comparison means. Alternatively, the information storage and retrieval device causes the optical head to move instead of the card.

    • The present invention provides a method and apparatus that can rapidly and accurately sort genuine from counterfeit coins without using a special high-performance CPU.
The invention relates to a method of sorting genuine and counterfeit coins that are passing through a predetermined pathway, wherein a plurality of type-identifying means 14 and 15 is arranged along the predetermined pathway along which a plurality of types of coins M to be sorted are passing. This method of sorting genuine and counterfeit coins comprises the steps of: setting a plurality of mutually non-overlapping assumed domains 1 to 4, one for each of identification factors of the type-identifying means and corresponding to magnitudes of values thereof; determining whether an output from any of the type-identifying means belongs in any of the plurality of assumed domains; and sorting whether or not outputs from the identification means belong within a closed function domain in coordinates of a plurality of dimensions with axes along which the identification factors are plotted, in order to sort in accordance with each of identification factors of the plurality of types.
The invention also relates to an apparatus for sorting genuine and counterfeit coins that are passing through a predetermined pathway, wherein a plurality of type-identifying means 14 and 15 is arranged along the predetermined pathway along which a plurality of types of coins M to be sorted are passing. This apparatus for sorting genuine and counterfeit coins comprises: an assumed region setting means for setting a plurality of mutually non-overlapping assumed domains, one for each of identification contents of the type-identifying means and corresponding to magnitudes of values thereof; a sorting means for determining whether an output from any of the type-identifying means belongs in any of the plurality of assumed domains; a function domain setting means for setting a closed function domain in coordinates of a plurality of dimensions with axes along which the identification factors are plotted, in order to sort in accordance with each of identification factors of the plurality of types; and a sorting means for sorting whether or not outputs from the identification means belong within the closed function domains; wherein genuine and counterfeit coins are sorted by an output from the sorting means.

    • A medical information management system records patient's medical information onto an optical card (5) for management purposes. For each patient, any suitable information selected from among character, image and sound information is recorded onto the optical card (5) as medical information corresponding to the patient's morbid state. A read section (3, 4) optically reads out the medical information written on the optical card. A display section (23) visually presents the character and image information contained in the medical information that is read out by the read section. A reproduction section (13) audibly reproduces the sound information contained in the medical information that is also read out by the read section. Thus, a doctor can easily acquire or diagnose the patient's morbid state by listening to the patient's characteristic cardiac sounds, cardiac murmurs and breathing sounds, particularly to the cardiac murmurs if the patient has some circulatory disease. By also displaying the sound information as a sound waveform diagram at the same time, more accurate acquisition of the morbid state can be achieved.

    • An information recording and reproducing apparatus is disclosed which prevents the bearing surface of an auxiliary bearing (23) of a card carriage (6) in sliding contact with an auxiliary guide rail (5) from being locally worn. A main guide rail (4) and the auxiliary guide rail (5) are spaced in the same plane. The axis of the auxiliary guide rail (5) is oblique at a predetermined very small angle to the axis of the main guide rail (4). The auxiliary bearing (23) has a bearing bore having a slot-shaped cross section. Portions of the bearing surface of the bearing bore which are in contact with the auxiliary guide rail (5) are displaced transversely to the direction of the stroke of the card carriage (6) during the stroke.

    • A first bill feeding plate 33 and a second bill feeding plate 34 cooperatively constitute a bill feeding passage 31 of a bill discrimination apparatus 1. The first bill feeding plate 33 is formed at a bottom of a casing 67, which is swingably supported on the second bill feeding plate 34 through a hinge shaft 36. An opening lever 82, having an engaging hook 83 and an operating projection 84, is swingably supported at a distal end of the casing 67. The first bill feeding plate 33 is fixed to the second feeding plate 34 when the engaging hook 83 is engaged with an engaging piece 94. Pulling up the operating projection 84 causes the opening lever 82 to start a swing motion about a bearing piece 87. This causes the engaging hook 83 to separate from the engaging piece 94, and the casing 67 rotates in a counterclockwise direction. Thus, the first bill feeding plate 33 separates from the second bill feeding plate 34 to widely open the bill feeding passage.
