    • The present invention provides a slide guide for a press which comprises a gib structure with a spherical surface. The gibs (5,6) are formed on a frame (1) of the press. The spherical surface is provided with a holder (27) or a cap (18) to cover the spherical surface. The surface contacts are formed between the spherical surface bodies and the gibs or between the caps and the gibs. Forming spherical contact surfaces prevents damage to the sliding surface. This slide guide provides uniform, secure contact at a sliding surface of a press and prevents uneven contact. The spherical surface body can be easily installed and can adapt to deformation of the slide and prevent damage to the sliding surface.

    • A hemming method for performing a 180 degree hem between an inner panel (26) and outer metal panel (24). A curved prehemming tool (54) is then moved in a direction (58) substantially parallel to the plane of the inner and outer panels so that the prehemming tool contacts a protruding coupon (32) on the outer panel and creates a bend line in the coupon at a position spaced outwardly from the outer edge of the inner panel. Thereafter, a final hemming tool (70) moves relative to the panels in a direction substantially parallel to the original plane of the inner and outer panels. This final hemming tool includes a first curved surface (72) which initially contacts the coupon and rolls the coupon such that the edge of the coupon contacts the inner panel. Thereafter, a generally planar wedge section (76) of the final hemming tool contacts the coupon and compresses the coupon against the inner panel thus completing the hemming operation.

    • One aspect of the invention provides a know down divan base for a bed where the base comprises a pair of lateral side panels (12), a pair of end panels (14) and a plurality of corner posts (16) for securing the end and side panels together to provide a generally rectangular base. Each corner post is secured in interlocking engagement with a respective end and side panel by means of at least one interlocking brace (18) extending between the adjacent end and side panels. Preferably the side and end panels are substantially non-load bearing such that the corner posts support substantially the whole of the bed independently of the panels (12, 14). The invention also comprehends an interlocking corner post and brace arrangement for use in other items of furniture, for example chairs or the like where a support structure is required.
