    • A measurement apparatus is disclosed in which a barrier (2) separates a chamber into a first region (10) and a second region (20). The barrier (50) is of a known thickness (T), and it comprises holes having a known radius (R). Gas flow means provide a flow of a carbon dioxide (12) in the first region (10) and a flow of a nitrogen (22) in the second region (20). A gas detector (28) measures the concentration of carbon dioxide in the second region (20) and a processor (32) calculates the theoretical diffusive flux from one region to another based on the known properties of the through-holes. The processor (32) is arranged to calculate a calibration parameter in order to relate the measured parameter to the theoretical diffusive flux, based on the known properties of the through-holes.

    • A weighing device (10) is disclosed including a motor (82) that can be used to rotate a drive head (84). The drive head (84) supports a cylindrical spindle (14) having a plurality of holes or recesses (86). The spindle (14) is configured so that it can be easily removed from the rotatable drive head (84) and placed on a load sensor (18) that can be used for weighing the device. In use a blister strip (not shown) can be loaded onto the spindle (14). An evacuation unit (32) is provided with a pair of cutting blades (70), (71). The load sensor (18) can determine a first measurement of weight when the blisters are full of powder and a second measurement of weight after the evacuation unit has been used to evacuate receptacles supported on the spindle.

    • The present invention provides an ignition system for a smoking machine, comprising a heat source (2) that is adapted for emitting heat for igniting one end of a smoking article which is held by a smoking machine; an automatic sensor (3, 4) which is adapted for detecting the position of said end of the smoking article; and control means in communication with said sensor (3, 4), which are adapted for automatically adjusting the operation of said heat source (2) and/or for automatically adjusting relative movement of said heat source and/or of said article, depending on the position of said end as detected by said sensor (3, 4), such as to enable successful ignition of said end by said heat source. The invention further provides a kit of components for forming an ignition system in accordance with the invention, and a smoking machine comprising an ignition system in accordance with the invention.
