    • Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for producing a folded sheet, the sheet (1) being fed using a feeding mechanism (7, 8), being aligned using an aligning device (2), and being folded using a folding device (3). The aim of the invention is to simplify production, render the production process more flexible, and reduce costs. Furthermore, an alternative apparatus should allow the production costs to be reduced by improving the quality. In the disclosed method, said aim is achieved by positioning the sheet (1) at an angle from the direction of travel (1) during the feeding process, aligning the sheet (1) that has been positioned at an angle, and transferring the aligned sheet (1) into a folding device (3) to produce at least one fold (4) that extends at an angle to the edges (5, 6) of the sheet (1). In a first embodiment, said aim is also achieved by an apparatus in which the folding device (3) is a buckle folding unit, the shape (11A) of the first buckle (11) of which is adapted to the edges (5, 6) of the sheet (1) that are positioned at an angle. In a second embodiment, said aim is further achieved by an apparatus in which the aligning device (2) has at least one stop (9) which can be rotated about an axis of rotation (C, D, E) in the direction of travel (A) of the aligned sheet (1) in order to allow the sheet (1) to be conveyed.

A control section (29) outputting a signal for deceleration to a driving source of the roller upon reception of a sheet detection signal from the sheet detector and stopping output of the signal for deceleration after elapse of a predetermined time. After the leading edge of the sheet introduced into the buckle passes through the sheet detector, the rotational speed of the roller is reduced to decrease the conveying speed of the sheet, the leading edge of the sheet collides with the stopper at a sufficiently reduced speed, thereafter, the rotational speed of the roller is gradually increased so that the rotational speed before being reduced is recovered when the next sheet is introduced into the buckle.
