    • The present invention suggests an apparatus for detecting the operation status of a fluorescent light source (101). The apparatus comprises an antenna for receiving (106) and sending (104) electromagnetic waves (107). The apparatus further comprises a modulation frequency correlator and a signal generator for generating an indication signal. According to a second aspect the present invention proposes a method for detecting the operation status of a fluorescent light source. The method comprises the steps of:
      - receiving an electromagnetic wave;
      - detecting a modulation of the received electromagnetic wave;
      - correlating the modulation frequency of the received electromagnetic wave with a predetermined frequency;
      - generating an indication signal if a correlation between the modulation frequency and the predetermined frequency is detected.
