    • A plastic zipper comprising a male hook and a pair of female hooks that are engaged with each other to form a combination thereof, the plastic zipper being characterized in that, when an opening force is applied to the plastic zipper from an opening side thereof, the pair of female hooks is provided on a flange, a portion of which, being defined by base portions of two female hooks on an opening and content side, becomes flexible, is disclosed. The above-described plastic zipper is favorably used for containers for packaging, since it permits resistance to opening on the opening side to consistently hold a low value of from about 0.9 kg/5 cm to about 1.2 kg/5 cm while permitting resistance to opening on the content side to hold an enough strength of from about 7 kg/5 cm to about 8 kg/5 cm, permits the resistance to opening on both opening and content sides to remain within a specified range of resistance to opening even after opening/closing operations have been executed 100 times or more and, further, has solved a deficiency of the conventional zipper that a resin become brittle by a low temperature causes a problem in the engagement, or the engagement function becomes inoperable after several times of opening/closing operations at an elevated temperature.

    • A snap closure for a flexible, gusseted package and a flexible gusseted packing including the closure. The package includes a mouth portion arranged to be opened to provide access to the contents of the package. The package is formed of a flexible material and includes a front panel, a rear panel, and a pair of opposed side gussets. The panels and gussets each include a top portion, which between them define the package's mouth. The package's mouth is initially sealed but arranged to be opened, e.g., peeled apart. The snap closure enables the resealing of the mouth of the package and is made up of a pair of elongated elements, one of which includes a tongue extending along the length of it. The other element includes an undercut groove extending along the length of it. The elements are arranged to be pressed together, whereupon the tongue of the one element enters the groove of the other element with portions of the panels and side gussets tightly interposed therebetween. The closure elements may be longitudinally rigid or may be segmented to flex in the longitudinal direction to facilitate opening. Moreover, the closure elements may be a part of the package or separate components for use therewith. In any case when the closure is utilized it recloses the mouth of the package to preclude or minimize the ingress of air into the package.

    • The disclosure relates to a method of forming a recloseable package (10) using special profile strips (20, 30); the strips themselves and a resulting package are disclosed. The profile strips have a flange element (22, 32) and a recloseable means element (24, 34), and two mated profile strips are provided with a heat barrier means (23, 33).
      The method comprises the steps of providing mated top and bottom profile strips (20, 30) providing top and bottom package films (12, 14) on opposite sides of the mated strips and applying heat and pressure to the films adjacent the flanges (22, 32) sufficient to simultaneously form heat seals respectively between the top film (12) and the top profile strip flange (22) and between the bottom film (14) and bottom profile strip flange (32). The heat barrier means may comprise a thickened flange element (23, 33) buffer strip or a coextrusion of high temperature resin on the inside layer of the flange element. The heat barrier means prevents the flanges from fusing together during the formation of flange-film seals.

    • A press closure (1) for the mouth of a bag comprises a first elongate strip (2') provided with an integral channel (3') and a second elongate strip (2) provided with a profiled rib (3). The rib (3) and channel (3') form an interlocking engagement means. The first and second elongate strips (2,2') may be of a polyethylene material and are fusion bonded to second strips (4, 4') which are of a nylon material. Each of the second strips (4,4') has applied thereto an bonding agent (5, 5') which is protected by a paper or the like releasable strip (6,6')
         In a manufacturing process the slide closure assembly (1) is drawn off from a reel and the protective papers (6,6') are peeled away whereby the exposed bonding agent (5,5') is brought into contact with the mouth portions of the bag material and secured thereto. This arrangement avoids the need to bond a strip material directly to the mouth of the bag where the press closure and bag material are of weld incompatible substances.
