摘要： A method and system of selectively communicating with a first portable device within pre-defined geographical zones is disclosed. The first portable device is associated with a geographical zone defined utilizing latitude and longitude attributes. Data representative of the geographical zone is then loaded on the first portable device. The first portable device includes a ground positioning unit receiver which allows the first portable device to receive positioning data and to determine its position in relation to the geographical zone. When the first portable device determines it is within the geographical zone, the first portable device enables communication between the first portable device and a second portable device.

The mobile wireless communications device may further include a non-visual indicator carried by the housing, and an orientation sensor carried by the housing. A controller may be carried by the housing, and coupled to the wireless transceiver and the display to perform at least one mobile wireless communications function. The controller may also be switchable to a stabilization mode to activate the non-visual indicator based upon the orientation sensor sensing relative angular movement beyond a threshold.

摘要： A user interface combines the use of capacitive sensors (20) with tactile sensors (22) in an input device (18). When a user places a finger near a key (16a-d, 17), a capacitive sensor causes the display (14) to display temporarily an indication of the key function in an enlarged format. The user may then press the associated key to activate the desired function. In one exemplary embodiment, the capacitive sensor fixes the functionality to the function indicated in the display. A tactile input applied to any key, whether the correct key, multiple keys, or single incorrect key, results in activating the function indicated in the display as a result of the capacitive input.

A second, companion mobile terminal device (COMTD) (14) enables a caregiver to communicate with the speech disabled individual's SGMTD to assist the individual in communicating with the caregiver by causing the SGMTD to switch to a particular menu or list from which the caregiver wants the disabled individual to make a selection. The SGMTD also includes software that enables the device to communicate with other SGMTDs via wireless communications and thereby simulate a verbal conversation between speech impaired individuals.
