摘要： A sample processing system that may be automated and methods are disclosed where samples are arranged on a carrier element and a process operation control system automatically processes the samples perhaps robotically with an operationally-influential exteriorly-consequential information monitor or a data capture element. Significant process details as well as operationally-influential exteriorly-consequential information may be monitored and an automatic notice element may cause notification of a person at some display that may be remote. Various people may be notified, such as an administrator, a supplier, or a manufacturer of an opportunity for some action such as reagent reordering or the like. A simulated motion display may be included to “watch” simulated operation in real time or long after completion of the actual processing.

摘要： An apparatus (100) for automatically hybridizing nucleic acid samples is disclosed. The apparatus includes a fluid control module (108) and a temperature control (104) for precisely controlling fluid contacting and temperature of a plurality of DNA samples. The DNA samples are typically arrayed on solid substrates (glass microscope slides) (106), and the disclosed apparatus can process up to twelve slides at one time on a master unit; satellite units can be added to increase the number of slides. All slides can be processed in parallel, or may be addressed individually to undergo different hybridization protocols. Thermal control is typically by slide pairs, such that slide pair undergoes the same temperature profile. Processes are carried out under software control by an embedded PC (personal computer) (122). User input is by touchscreen (124) or floppy disk drive (126).

摘要： A variety of elastomeric-based microfluidic devices and methods for using and manufacturing such devices are provided. Certain of the devices have arrays of reaction sites to facilitate high throughput analyses. Some devices also include reaction sites located at the end of blind channels at which reagents have been previously deposited during manufacture. The reagents become suspended once sample is introduced into the reaction site. 摘要： Methods of controlling fluid flow through microchannels by use of passive valves or stopping means in the microchannels are presented. The passive valves act as pressure barriers impeding flow of solution past the stopping means until enough force is built up to overcome the force of the pressure barrier. Well planned use of such stopping means acting as passive valves allows the flow of fluids through microchannels to be regulated so as to allow fluids to be mixed or diluted after being introduced via a single channel, or to be split into multiple channels without the need for individual pipetting. Flow through the multiple channels can be regulated to allow a series of sister wells or chambers to all fill prior to the fluid flowing beyond any one of the sister wells or chambers. The filling of sister wells or chambers in this manner allows all wells or chambers to undergo reactions in unison. The use of air ducts to prevent trapping of air in the microchannels is also presented.
