    • A chair has a base, a seat and a back arrangement (11, 13) for an occupant, and an upright telescopic height adjustable pedestal assembly (19) connected vertically between the base and the seat and back arrangement for supporting the latter and permitting the height thereof to be vertically adjusted. The height adjustable pedestal assembly (19) includes a first height adjusting mechanism (21) having a predetermined vertical stroke defined between upper and lower stroke limiting positions for permitting the height of the seat and back arrangement to be adjusted to any position along said stroke; and a second height adjusting mechanism (22) defining at least upper and lower vertically-spaced range positions for permitting the vertical length of the pedestal assembly to be respectively increased and decreased, whereby the seat and back arrangement can be subjected to the predetermined vertical stroke of the first height adjustment mechanism (21) when in either of the upper and lower range positions. The first and second height adjusting mechanisms (21, 22) are connected vertically in series, and each is independently operable.

Die Führungsbüchse (20) weist ein Rohrstück (21) auf, dessen Längsachse auf der Hauptachse A der Stütze liegt. Von der Aussenfläche (23) des Rohrstückes (21) stehen Aussenrippen (22) ab, welche sich bis zur Innenfläche (24) des Führungsrohres (1) erstrecken. Von der Innenseite (43) des Rohrstückes (21) stehen Innenrippen (42) ab, welche sich von der Innenseite (43) dieses Rohrstückes (21) gegen die Hauptachse A der Stütze hin erstrecken. Der Stirnbereich (40) der Innenrippe (42) weist eine gekrümmte Stirnfläche (39) auf, deren Krümmungsradius dem Krümmungsradius der Aussenwand (14) der Verstellvorrichtung (10) entspricht. Der genannte Stirnbereich (40) umfasst ferner zumindest eine Lippe (50,57;60), welche so ausgebildet ist, dass die Verstellvorrichtung (10) durch diese Lippe ebenfalls gestüzt werden kann. Eine solche Stütze lässt sich (nach-)bearbeitungsfrei und trotzdem spielfrei herstellen, was unter anderem die Herstellungskosten der Stütze wesentlich senkt.
